RealThings Animation * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
If you have DeLuxe Paint III, the wonderful DPaint
update that gives you ANIMATION POWER within seconds,
then you'll enjoy running this sampler from the latest
RealThings issue - HUMANS.
Maybe you've done the "amazing bouncing ball" tutorial
in DPIII's manual, and learned your way around the
paint-and-animate programme doing that. Then what?
Moving inanimate objects around the screen is fun.
Zooming text is great. But true animation is about
living, moving, animate creatures. That means you
need a set of "sequenced" pictures, each a little
different from the last. Then you can make an
"animbrush", and with that you paint your action.
In RealThings Animation series, that's what you get.
If you already have RealThings HORSES and
RealThings BIRDS 1&2 you'll know the ropes.
For those who don't - yet - here are some hints.
-------------------------------------------------------
SAMPLER from RealThings - HUMANS.
Follow these steps to explore a few of the possibilities.
Use the small sample kit of RealThings parts supplied in
this Amiga Format COVER DISK draw. "Humans" is a big
subject! We are not going to take ourselves too seriously
here. So give yourself an hour to have a bit of fun with
the human race.
(NOTE: No icons for the sample kit show in the Workbench.
You load the parts within DeLuxe Paint III requesters.
There you first open a directory called "HUMANS SAMPLER"
and they are all inside, numbered 1 to 7.)
Here is a recommended order of action first time around.
After that...get creative!
[A] Load your DPIII programme, asking for LoRes and 16
colours. Then Load "1.WildMan.anim" in your ANIM Load
requester. After the zzzzz, press 4 (not number-pad) to
see him run.
[B] To take him into polite society, you may first wish
to get some shorts onto the guy. So go into your
ANIMBRUSH Load requester and load "2.Shorts.abr". If you
have never seen shorts in action on their own before, press
key 8. Now you'll need to match up frames. The shorts
first appear as frame 1 when loaded, so roll the wild man
around to frame 1 too, then fit the garment to the man and
paste down. Open the MOVE requester (hit Shift M) and
enter 12 in "COUNT" box. All other co-ordinates remain
zero. Then click "DRAW" in that requester. If you fitted
up frame 1 correctly, you'll be able to take your wild man
anywhere. Almost.
[C] Shorts are not the only thing that can get around on
their own in RealThings. That guy will never get a city
job with a haircut like that! Give him a new head. Back
to the ANIMBRUSH Load requester again, Load "3.NewHead.abr"
and try it for size.
[D] That shaggy hair is too much! You'll have to clear
away the old head down to the marker. For help with that
press J to get to Scratch Pad, and Load "4.Re-Heading.pic"
Through the PICTURE Load requester. This pic illustrates
a white blocking-out brush you make and use in the 12
frames of the original anim. (Remember the "J" step
between Scratch Pad and Anim!) Having cleared space for
the new head, position it fitting frame 1 to 1 again, and
use the MOVE requester exactly as before.
[E] From now on it's clear your friend is in the middle of
every commuter's nightmare. Your aim is to add further
touches of detail. But first erase all the "scaffolding"
around the head. Then look again at the picture in Amiga
Format Cover Disk pages. With that beside you, follow the
steps given in rapid-fire below:-
[F] In Scratch Pad, Load "5.BrollyBits.pic". First put
the newspaper in his left hand where it fits. Then the
umbrella in his right. (Lift the images as brushes, but
not - of course - the numbers.)
[G] When the action you've constructed so far satisfies
you, make an animbrush of it, complete, by using ANIMBRUSH
Pick Up. Ensure all extremities of the action are within
the pick up box, and save it to a data disk. Before going
further, use ANIMBRUSH Free to clear memory.
[H] Clear all 12 frames of the anim. Load the ANIMBRUSH
"6.StreetScroll". Fit its cursor to bottom right corner
of screen, paste in and use MOVE requester as before. Run
the empty street to check the action.
[I] In the BRUSH Load requester, load "7.Bus.br". At the
far right of screen, paste it in to each frame in turn
MOVING IT UP AND DOWN VERY SLIGHTLY between frames. The bus
bumps a bit on the road.
[J] Now reload your desperate commuter man. Get his feet
positioned so that he's on the road but his kick-back
stays in left of screen. Paste in, and - for the last
time - use the MOVE requester with the old settings.
----------------------------------------------------------
Well, was it an hour? Or more...or less? Anyway, time
flies when you're enjoying yourself. That's RealThings
for you. In RealThings HUMANS you can start at the
beginning - with Adam...and, of course, Eve - and go on
from there. Animation is about living creatures: even us!
