  6. DESCRIPTION:
  7. TrayDay - date, calendar and counter utility for the Windows 95 or NT 4
  8. tray.
  9.  
  10. TrayDay places an icon showing the date (day of the month) in the 
  11. system tray (the part of the taskbar which includes the clock). The 
  12. icon resembles a page of a "tear-off" calendar.
  13.  
  14. You can therefore see the date at a glance - often quicker and easier 
  15. than resting your mouse over the clock, searching for an "Insert Date" 
  16. menu, or having to reach for your diary. Move the mouse over the icon 
  17. and the day of the week will appear.
  18.  
  19. Left-click the icon and a pop-up menu appears showing the date in
  20. various formats - including up to ten user defined formats. Click one
  21. and it will automatically be inserted into your application (or copied
  22. to the clipboard, depending on the option checked in the right-click
  23. menu). You can select your favorite date format to be available by
  24. double-clicking the TrayDay icon.

  26. The user formats can include the date, time, and counters -
  27. particularly useful for date-stamping messages or files.

  31. NEW! From version 6.1 TrayDay also has a calendar option; you can
  32. choose to have the new monthly calendar "on top" all the time for quick
  33. reference. Navigate months and years using the mouse or keyboard - or
  34. the Microsoft IntelliMouse« wheel - and copy any date to the clipboard
  35. in the format of your choice. The calendar shows Sunday as first day
  36. of the week, but this can be changed to Monday in the Advanced options
  37. dialog.

  39. To display the calendar, left-click the TrayDay icon and select Show
  40. Calendar. Or start TrayDay with "/c" in the command line. Note that
  41. TrayDay remembers the window position and whether the calendar is
  42. displayed from one session to the next.

  44. When the calendar is displayed, an extra icon, which looks like a small
  45. calendar, appears in the tray. If the calendar has been lost behind
  46. other windows, click this icon to bring it back to the top. This icon
  47. is not displayed (because not necessary) if "on top" is selected.

  49. To move from month to month or year to year refer to the following
  50. list. Note that the calendar needs to be the active window if the
  51. keyboard or IntelliMouse« wheel is to be used.

  53.   Clicking [<], pressing left cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
  54.   wheel away from you, moves back a month.
  55.  
  56.   Clicking [<<], pressing up cursor key or "Page Up", or rolling the
  57.   IntelliMouse wheel away from you with Ctrl key down, moves back a
  58.   year.

  60.   Clicking [ò], pressing "Home" key, or clicking the IntelliMouse wheel
  61.   with the mouse pointer over the calendar, goes to the current month.

  63.   Clicking [>>], pressing down cursor key or "Page Down", or rolling
  64.   the IntelliMouse wheel towards you with Ctrl key down, moves forward
  65.   a year.

  67.   Clicking [>], pressing right cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
  68.   wheel towards you, moves forwards a month.
  69.  
  70.   Clicking [T], pressing "t", or selecting appropriate menu items
  71.   switches "on top" on or off.

  73. For fastest navigation, press and hold the up/down cursor key or "Page
  74. Up/Down" to move quickly through the years.
  75.  
  76. To close the calendar (without exiting from TrayDay) click the close
  77. button on the title bar, press "Esc" when the calendar is the active
  78. window, or select Hide calendar from the TrayDay left-click menu or
  79. calendar right-click menu.

  83. The TrayDay right-click menu shows the various items used to configure
  84. TrayDay, and Exit. Selecting Options... brings up a dialog box which
  85. lets you choose different tray icons, define user formats, etc.

  87. From there click Advanced... to bring up advanced options; these
  88. include setting the first day of the week to Sunday or Monday for the
  89. calendar, selecting what will be displayed on the tooltip which appears
  90. when the mouse cursor is moved over the TrayDay icon - and whether to
  91. reset any counters at midnight and startup.
  92.  
  93. You can also select from the right-click menu the action to be carried
  94. out when a date is selected on the left-click menu - the current action
  95. is marked with a tick. The three possibilities are: Copy - the date
  96. will be copied to the clipboard. Insert - the text will be inserted at
  97. the insertion point of your active or foreground window by simulating
  98. keyboard input. And Paste - the text will be copied to the clipboard
  99. AND automatically pasted in at the insertion point. [Note that if
  100. Insert is selected but the date includes character(s) which cannot be
  101. typed by a single combination of keystrokes, the Paste action will
  102. occur automatically.]

  104. By placing a shortcut to TrayDay.exe in your startup folder, you can
  105. have the date always available.
  106.  
  107. See Help (run TrayDay, right-click the icon in the tray and select
  108. "Help...") for detailed instructions. Also see context-sensitive help
  109. in the Options dialog box - click [?] on the title bar, then the area
  110. of the box you require help for.

  118. LIMITATIONS:
  119. Inserting or pasting text to an MS-DOS window is not supported.
  120.  
  121. Inserting or pasting text to a combo-box (edit control with a down
  122. arrow at the right to open a list) may not produce the required result.

  127. TO INSTALL:
  128. TrayDay is distributed in two forms; as a self-extracting .exe (which
  129. may be called trayd61b.exe), or as a .zip file (which may be called
  130. trayd61b.zip). If you have the .exe version, simply double-click it to
  131. run, and follow the setup instructions.
  132.  
  133. If installing from the .zip file, copy all the files in the .zip file
  134. (TrayDay.exe, TrayDay.hlp, TrayDay.cnt, readme.txt, order.txt and
  135. file_id.diz) to a new folder; for convenience you could call this
  136. folder "TrayDay". To run, double-click TrayDay.exe.
  137.  
  138. To set TrayDay to run at startup, either choose "Yes" when given this
  139. option if installing from an .exe file, or create a shortcut for it in
  140. your StartUp folder. (Hint: Using the Explorer, right click and drag
  141. TrayDay.exe; drop into the StartUp folder; choose "Create Shortcut
  142. Here" from the popup menu.)

  145. TO UNINSTALL:
  146. TrayDay copies no other files, so to uninstall, simply remove the
  147. folder and files mentioned above. Or if you have installed using an
  148. .exe file, go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, and select
  149. TrayDay; or select the Uninstall icon in the TrayDay program group.

  152. TO REGISTER:
  153. TrayDay is a shareware program. When first run the welcome box
  154. displays: "Evaluation Version"; after 28 days it automatically becomes
  155. the "Unregistered Version". The only change to the program's function
  156. at that point is that the welcome box which appears at startup may also
  157. appear at other times. If you wish to continue using TrayDay after 28
  158. days, you should register. You can convert to the Registered Version at
  159. any time by entering the registration number you will be given by mail
  160. or e-mail.

  162. Benefits of registering are:
  163. ╖ The 'Shift icon' functions are enabled.
  164. ╖ The welcome box which appears at startup (and more often after 28
  165.   days) can be turned off.
  166. ╖ A sincere "Thank you" for supporting our efforts to develop quality

  169. Registration covers this and any future version of TrayDay. Note that
  170. one registered copy of TrayDay may be used by a single person who uses

  224. Distribute the unregistered version freely, but please make sure that 
  225. TrayDay.exe and the readme.txt are kept together - preferably in the 
  226. original .zip or .exe file.

  228. If TrayDay is to be distributed on a read-only medium such as CD-ROM,
  229. then it is strongly recommended that the self-extracting .exe file with
  230. Setup routine is used (it may be called trayd61b.exe), rather than the
  231. .zip file or individual uncompressed files. This can be downloaded via

  280.     (by going to Advanced options) in the tooltip which appears
  281.     when you move the mouse over the TrayDay icon. They can also be
  282.     used in a user date format with the letters 'a' for day of year
  283.     and 'w' for week of year.
  284.     Option *not* to have any counters reset at midnight and startup
  285.     added. This has been included in advanced options, and means
  286.     that counter values can be preserved from one session to the
  287.     next.
  288. 6.1a    Bug (new in 6.1) affecting regular shifting of the icon fixed.
  289. 6.1b    On the calendar, some non-English language users had day
  290.     letters and months appear in English. Now fixed, so that they
  291.     are displayed in the user's own language.
