USING YOUR CREDIT CARD: From the Beginning
Whenever you open a credit card account, you should plan for
eventual problems. First, keep everything the credit card
issuer ever sends you -- And I mean everything! This
includes the offer for the card that you received in the
mail, a photocopy of the application you filled out and sent
back (both sides), the contents of the envelope in which
your shiny new credit card arrived, a copy of all your
charge receipts, monthly statements, any letters from the
credit card issuer, any letters of dispute, canceled checks,
product warranties for products purchased with the card, in
short -- everything!
There are a hundred good reasons to follow this advice; I
can't explain them all here. Probably the single most
important reason is protection. If a dispute arises with
your credit card account, this documentation will be your
best weapon. This is sage advice; follow it and someday
you'll be glad you did.
