  9. Football Statistician Professional is a piece of software which allows
  10. you to have a detailed analysis of a football league.  The program was
  11. written for football results  and  is  aimed  to  be used for football
  12. leagues.  You may, however use  it  for  other types of leagues.  This
  13. easy to use program allows you to generate league tables with ease.

  20. The main menu of the  program  lists  a  variety  of options.  You may
  21. refer to each of these options  by  skipping to the different sections
  22. of this documentation.  The use of  the  main menu is simple.  Use the
  23. mouse pointer to click at  the  option  of  your  choice, use the left
  24. mouse button to make the selection.

  49. If you have not started a new league  you will be required to edit the
  50. league details.  This  involves  filling  out  a  form  which comes up
  51. automatically if the file contains no results.  If you wish to clear a
  52. file you can do so by selecting the option from the main menu.
  53.  
  54. When starting a new file, you  must  enter  the  name of the league by
  55. typing it in on the form.   Select  the  number  of times a team plays
  56. each other in the league  by  using  the left/right arrow keys.  Enter
  57. the names of the teams by  selecting  the  team and entering the name.
  58. Use the up/down arrows to select the team of your choice.  Below is an
  59. example of a completed form :

  69. The arrow is the cursor use to select/edit the names.

  71. Once a file is defined, at any time you enter a result which brings up
  72. a page showing a table looking like this :

  85. The goals will continue down in a  column  up until 24.  At the bottom
  86. is the score.  The first team  is  the  home team, the home goals, the
  87. away team and the away goals.  Simply select the teams in the relevant
  88. columns and select the  score.   Use  the  left  mouse  button for the
  89. selecting.  To enter the  result  press  the  right mouse button.  You
  90. will then be shown the form again  ready to input the next result.  If
  91. you have finished then press the right mouse button.

  93. The result entering process is also exited by inputting a result where
  94. the teams have already played on the requested number of times, or you
  95. have tried to input a result where a team plays itself.

  97. If the preference is on then  a  page  of  the results entered will be
  98. shown.  This allows you to check if the results are correctly entered.

  105. Use the icons along the bottom of the screen to select a page with the
  106. result which you want to  delete  on.   Click  on  this result and the
  107. computer will ask you to verify your choice as to delete the result or
  108. not.  Click on your response  'yes'  or  'no'.   If you click on 'yes'
  109. then the result will be deleted from the file.

  116. If a team has had  points  deducted  for disciplinary reasons then you
  117. are allowed to deduct the points.   Simply  select the team form which
  118. points are to  be  deducted  and  enter  the  number  of  points to be
  119. deducted from the team's points tally.

  126. There are three types of league table which can be compiled :
  127.  
  128. 1. Full League Table
  129.    This details statistics of home/away games
  130.  
  131. 2. Existing League Table
  132.    This details statistics of all games
  133.  
  134. 3. Selected League Table
  135.    This displays a table  from  any  match  number.  Simple select the
  136. match number by clicking on the +/- boxes to change each numeric
  137.    digit.  You also need to select the number of games played by each
  138.    team by clicking on the +/- boxes.

  140. The abbreviations are as follows :

  142. W   - Won
  143. D   - Drawn
  144. L   - Lost
  145. FOR - Goals For
  146. AGA - Goals Against
  147. GD  - Goal Difference (FOR - AGA)
  148. PTS - Points
  149.  
  150. If colour coding is on then the  teams in the promotion and relegation
  151. zones will be hi-lited.  The team which  has been selected as the team
  152. to be followed may also be hi-lited.

  154. You can view a team's last  results  by  clicking on the team from the
  155. league table.  A window will display  the  last matches by the team in
  156. question.  To exit the window press  the left mouse button.  Press the
  157. right mouse button to exit the league table.

  164. There are several types of statistic table which can be viewed :

  166. 1. General Statistics
  167.    This details general league statistics.  The percentages are
  168.    displayed in yellow on the right side of the page.
  169.  
  170. 2. Team Statistics
  171.    This details team statistics.  You must fist select the team
  172.    which you wish to view statistics on.
  173.  
  174. 3. Team Statistics Comparison
  175.    This details team statistics on two teams.  You must firstly select
  176.    the teams which you wish to compare.

  183. There are several types of graph which can be viewed :
  184.  
  185. 1. Average Goals Graph
  186.    This graph displays each teams average number of goals scored and
  187.    conceded.  The first bar shows the goals scored, the second shows
  188.    the goals conceded for each team in the league.

  190.    y-axis = Goals scored/conceded ; x-axis = Team
  191.  
  192. 2. Points Progress Graph
  193.    Two teams are selected allowing you to compare the progress of
  194.    their points from game 1.  You can analyse the peaks/troughs of a
  195.    team's progress in the league.  A flat line indicates a poor run
  196.    whereas a steep diagonal line indicates a good run.

  198.    y-axis = Points ; x-axis = Game Number
  199.    line 1 = Team 1 ; line 2 = Team 2
  200.  
  201. 3. Wins/Draws/Defeats Graph
  202.    An ordered graph showing either wins/draws/defeats for each team in
  203.    the league can be shown.  Simply click on the responding icon to
  204.    vary the graph type between the three.

  206.    y-axis = Total wins/draws/defeats ; x-axis = Team
  207.  
  208. 4. Goals Scored/Conceded Graph
  209.    First select the team in question, a graph will then display the
  210.    number of goals scored for each game.  By clicking on the icons you
  211.    can show the goals scored/conceded or both at once.

  213.    y-axis = Goals scored/concede ; x-axis = Game Number
  214.  
  215. If the graph font is turned on  (see preferences) then numbers will be
  216. displayed on certain graphs to display quantities.

  223. There are a variety of  different  table  which can be displayed.  The
  224. tables display the top scoring matches.   You  must select the type of
  225. table which could be :

  227. 1. Biggest Home Wins
  228.    Shows the biggest home wins in order.
  229. 2. Biggest Away Wins
  230.    Shows the biggest away wins in order.
  231. 3. Biggest Wins
  232.    Shows the biggest wins in order.
  233. 4. Biggest Score Draws
  234.    Shows the biggest score draws in order
  235. 5. Frequent Scores Chart
  236.    This chart displays the frequency of scores in the league so far.
  237.    The table shows numbers across the top representing the away team
  238.    and the numbers down the page shows the home team.  Simply match up
  239.    the home row with the away column to indicate the number of times
  240.    this result has occurred.  Clicking on the number allows you to
  241.    view all the results with this score line.

  256. There are various results table which can be viewed :

  258. 1. All Results
  259.    All results from match number one to the latest match are
  260.    displayed.  Use the icons below to select the first/last page and
  261.    adjust the page number.

  263. 2. Team Results
  264.    Selection can be made on the team, you can select whether to view
  265.    home/away games and scorelines with wins/defeats/draws.  Clicking
  266.    on the word either turns the option to view this type of result.
  267.    If away games is turned on then no away games are shown, if wins
  268.    are turned off then no wins are shown.  Once selected you can use
  269.    the icons to show the results.  There are two match numbers, one
  270.    shows the league's match number and the other shows the team's
  271.    individual match number.

  273. 3. Team Results Table
  274.    A table of results by a team can be shown, simply select the team
  275.    and a table shows all the results against each team in the league.

  277. Clicking on a result opens a window  which displays a quick summary of
  278. statistics for both teams.

  285. The ability to predict  a  result  depending  on  current  form can be
  286. predicted from this  option.   Simply  select  the  home/away teams in
  287. question and a prediction will be displayed based on current home/away
  288. form.

  295. A breakdown of results is  displayed.   Either  all home results, away
  296. results or both can be displayed  for  every  team in the league.  The
  297. results are represented by a single character :

  299.                    W - Win ; D - Draw ; L - Defeat

  301. Using the icons below allows you to  adjust the mode either to display
  302. home, away or all results.  Colour coding separates the type of result
  303. in a different colour (this is enabled from preferences).

  310. You have the option to  select  one  of  four  folders.  Use the right
  311. mouse button to  flick  between  folders.   Each  folder  contains ten
  312. files.  Clicking on a file allows  selection of this file, clicking on
  313. 'OK' executes the procedure to either  load/save.  The table shows the
  314. statistics on the  file  including  the  date  (this  is adjusted from
  315. preferences if you don't have an internal clock).  If you wish to edit
  316. the name of the  file  then  you  can  do  so  by  clicking on the box
  317. containing the league name.

  319. External operations can  be  performed  allowing  you to import/export
  320. files from other sources.  Simply specify the path and file name using
  321. the AmigaDOS standards.

  328. The configuration of  the  program  is  altered.   You  can change the
  329. league name along with  the  team  names.   Other  options include the
  330. ability to select the league table relegation/promotion zones.  A zone
  331. partition separates teams with a  set  number  of  points apart in the
  332. league table.  You can hi-lite the default team by selecting on/off.
  333.  
  334. Auto loading of the first file  from  the  first folder is done if the
  335. auto load option is on.   The  file  save  maximum lists the number of
  336. results which are to be saved.  A graph font can be turned on/off.

  338. The team followed can  be  selected  along  with  the number of points
  339. awarded for a win.  The option  to  verify matches when entered can be
  340. turned on/off  along  with  the  selection  of  the  last  1-5 matches
  341. displayed from the league table.

  348. The option to quit  the  package  returns  the  computer  to the state
  349. before the program was loaded.  Since  the package is loaded from DOS,
  350. You should be returned to DOS.

  357. The package can be installed onto  another  disk or hard disk.  Simply
  358. copy all the relevant files :

  363.               FootStats-Folder-4 Directory and all files

  366. From the start up sequence  assign  the directory which contains these
  367. files to the  name  'Football-Statistician-Pro'.   For  example if the
  368. directory containing these files is  called  'Football' then you would
  369. enter the following from the CLI/Startup-sequence :
