Dark Forces Editor Version 2.00
by Sean Baker
Copyright 1995 Sean Baker
HISTORY: I originally released version 1.0 a few days ago. After I
released it I realized that I should have called it a beta release
as it had many problems with it. So I have written this new version
that will now change the graphics of weapons and enemies when they
are randomized. WARNING -- This program is not perfect. Once in a
while an item or an enemy may not appear. If this happens just
restore the level from my program's main menu (NOTE: You must have
already backed up the level to restore it.
This new version allows you to add the Assault Cannon (this
thing really rocks !!!) and you can add ammo for it and missile for it
(use the missiles with the cannon by using the secondary fire key). You
can also now add more enemies to the demo.
Versions 1.6 and 1.7 correct a number of bugs in version 1.5
and also add some new graphics to the gameplay.
Version 1.71 corrected a (quite) large error in version 1.7
that messed up if Stormtroopers were added.
Version 2.00 is the newest version of DFed. It allows you to
edit things in the full version of the game in the same way that you
could in the demo editor.
USE: To use DFed 2.00 you need to unzip the .ZIP file into your
Dark Forces directory. Now go into Windows and run the program using
the Run option in the Windows File menu. The executable file name is
DFEDWIN1.ZIP. If you do not have VBRUN300.DLL file in your
WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory you need to move it there (it's included in
the ZIP file. Once the program has been started it is pretty much
self-explanatory.
A word of caution - The absolute maximum number of objects
that can be put into a level is 595 but I do not recommend going over
590. Also -- it takes 20 seconds or so for the program to randomly
place 590 objects on my Pentium 90 system. Another caution - when you
change the level number you erase ALL of the information you have
added to a level.
DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for any damage this program may do
to any of your hardware or software (it hasn't caused me any problems)
.
IMPORTANT: Objects added with DFed may appear in strange places. Enemies
may be trapped in an area smaller than their size. This is due to the
random placement of the objects in the level. If you choose the
randomize option there is as good a chance that a Dark Trooper Phase
3 will be added as there is that shield units will be.
Also, in some levels (such as 14) you will not (unless you
know how to edit the .INF files) be able to get very far in the level
due to the fact that a "boss" does not exist. Thus, you can not kill
the "boss" and thus, certain doors will not open. If this happens try
typing LASKIP to skip the rest of the level. Or, if you can not get
a certain key type LAUNLOCK and you will get all of the keys and data
cards, or if you can't get out the starting area of Jabba's ship type
LAPOGO and walk towards one of the windows so that you can continue
the level.
DISTRIBUTION: This program may be distributed freely as long as two
conditions are met. 1) The program can be distributed only in the
original .ZIP format. 2) You are not to sell this program in any way
without MY permission.
