  6. NewsCoaster is a newsreader, which requires MUI. NewsCoaster is shareware, and
  7. the unregistered version if limited to viewing a maximum of two newsgroups. Please see
  8. the documentation for details on registering.

  14. Known bugs:
  15. - For those upgrading: If you open a View window, then switch the displayed folder to
  16. another folder, you will see that doing 'Prev'/'Next' on the View window moves to the
  17. previous or next message in that original newsgroup - this is fine. But if one of
  18. those messages is an 'Online' message downloaded with a version previous to v1.26, but
  19. the body hasn't been downloaded, then NewsCoaster will not fetch the body. This is
  20. fixed for messages downloaded from now on.
  21. - There is sometimes a crash when clicking the '+/-' icons for editing groups
  22. (Newsgroups or Followup-To header) .. you are advised either to not use this, or to
  23. save anything you've written (click Postpone, then re-edit). Please don't write your
  24. message than click the '+/-' button since you might lose your message!
  25.  
  26. New for version 1.26:
  27. - Faster downloading (possibly up to 35% or more, though this is on a fast connection -
  28.   I suspect modems will experience smaller increases)
  29. - Downloading group list is much faster (about 25 times faster on my very fast
  30.   connection - modems will experience smaller increases)
  31. - Multiple view windows! (must be enabled from Prefs if upgrading from older version)
  32.   (they also behave more sensibly, eg if you switch to a different folder, you can
  33.   read from the old folder by doing Prev/Next on the view window)
  34. - Doubleclick on a message in the search window immediately opens the message without
  35.   need to change the current folder
  36. - Option to read timezone from Locale preferences
  37. - 'Shortcuts' removed on the requesters for Permenant Deleting of all messages (either
  38.   in one or all groups) - just to be safe!
  39. - Folder list displays whether the newsgroup is online or offline reading
  40. - Priority is set to -2 when downloading to try to avoid slowdown of any other programs
  41.   that are running (if not already lower)
  42. - Bug fix; the 'x-no-archive : yes, only if following up to a message with that header'
  43.   didn't work (it never put the header in)
  44. - Bug fix; some SMTP servers require a correct email address to send from - you can now
  45.   specify this in the Preferences

  47. New for version 1.25: (23.1.00)
  48. - When downloading news, searching, performing statistics, etc, the currently viewed
  49.   folder no longer changes (this also makes things faster)
  50. - Messages can now be viewed as 'threads' in a tree - note this is experimental and
  51.   doesn't work too well atm.. ('View' menu under 'Messages')
  52. - Doubleclicking works on the 'tree' view for the grouplist. Drag 'n' drop sorting also
  53.   works (but not too well atm)
  54. - Messages marked as 'important' aren't deleted by the 'auto delete after x days'
  55.   option
  56. - Included an updated version of TextEditor.mcc in the archive (though this updated
  57.   isn't required, v15.5 works fine still)
  58. - 'Cancel' buttons have shortcut changed from 'c' to 'a', since Amiga-c is copy in
  59.   string gadgets of course
  60. - Bug fix; aborting 'Update Index' / 'Update All Indices' now works again
  61. - Bug fix; 'Update All Indices' read from each group in turn, but each time overwrote
  62.   the index file of the first group
  63. - Bug fix; v1.24 would truncuate messageIDs at 64 chars when sticking in the
  64.   'References' line on a followup.
  65. - Bug fix; group list was sorted alphabetically automatically upon loading
  66. - Bug fix; message count wasn't updated immediately when downloading news, or after
  67.   composing a message
  68. - Bug fix; 'permenant delete' displayed errors (when there weren't any)

  74. - Groups list can now be viewed either as a list or a tree (the latter is fairly simple
  75.   atm, though - doubleclicks and dragsorting don't work), go to 'View' menu under
  76.   'Newsgroups'
  77. - Sorting type of messages is now saved
  78. - Option to trace back through the thread (will not function on messages downloaded
  79.   with a version previous to v1.24)
  80. - Undelete option (will not function correctly on messages downloaded with a version
  81.   previous to v1.24)
  82. - Deleting messages is quicker
  83. - Option to 'permanently delete' messages (messages are deleted straight away rather
  84.   than copied to 'deleted', but this method is much quicker) - either selected messages,
  85.   all messages in a group, or all messages in all groups
  86. - Option to mark messages as 'Important' - these messages are highlighted
  87. - Messages that have been downloaded in online mode, and the body has not yet been
  88.   downloaded, are marked with a '*'.
  89. - When downloading, status window displays newsgroup currently being downloaded
  90. - Bug fix; if the body of a message wasn't found, the file opened for message was not
  91.   deleted, and left 'Open'
  92. - Reports that some other newsreaders interpret 2 digit dates as being in the 1900s -
  93.   NewsCoaster now outputs 4 digit years (NewsCoaster has itself always assumed two digit
  94.   dates of less that 78 to be in the 2000s).

  96. New for version 1.23:
  97. - Multiple users allowed, each with their own location for storing news, and optional
  98.   password protection
  99. - Specify different newsservers for posting and reading
  100. - Last used settings for expire type/time on killfiles are remembered and used as
  101.   defaults
  102. - Toolbar buttons are disabled when appropriate (and some menuitems too)
  103. - Bug fixes; hangs whilst downloading, due to date parsing - is a lot more flexible now

  105. New for version 1.22:
  106. - Index reading *much* faster (about 2.5-3.0 times:)
  107. - Sizes of messages displayed (only for messages downloaded from now on)
  108. - New Logging Option - virtually all function calls logged to 'newscoaster.log' if you
  109.   wish (shouldn't be used in general, but if you are experiencing bugs/crashes, sending
  110.   a log will make things a lot easier for me:)
  111. - Bug fix; dates were parsed incorrectly in rare circumstances
  112. - Bug fix; enforcer hit when an empty message is composed

  115. - Bug fix; random characters sometimes appeared at end of messages written by the user

  118. - Wordwrapping on quoted text is set to a longer line length than on new text
  119. - A Killfile can be set to expire a certain number of days either since being created,
  120.   or since it was last used
  121. - Killfiles editor now works a bit more intuitively
  122. - Killfiles editor displays creation and last used dates of each killfile
  123. - Option to archive newsgroup messages into a single text file
  124. - More resistance to crashes (before if there was a crash between having downloaded,
  125.   and before quitting, vital information would not get saved meaning next time you
  126.   downloaded, the old messages would be overwritten! There were other similar problems.
  127.   Now this information is saved immediately after downloading, and other vital places.
  128.   Additionally, even if something still messes up, messages should now never overwrite
  129.   existing files.
  130. - Slight improvement in speed when downloading bodies of articles in online mode
  131. - Repeated clicking on column headings switches order of sorting
  132. - Bug fix; crashes related to online viewing

  204.  - New killfile - will detect a number given as the last word in Subject, eg, 'Make
  205. lots of money 1206' Such numbers usually indicate an advert or other off-topic
  206. announcement. You can now tell NewsCoaster to avoid these (when the number is 100 or
  207. greater).
  208.  - Recognises '|' as a quoting character (before was just '>', ':' and '!').
  209.  - Bug fix when copying from a view window and pasting into a write window.

  212.  - Added 'Deleted' folder.

  214.  - When a new message is created, the folder no longer changes to 'Outgoing' (thus
  215.    speeding things up, too).
