  9. these days. After a while you begin
  10. to take it for granted, and it is a
  11. great way to keep in touch.
  12. However, I recently decided to go back
  13. to mailtrading, not because it has
  14. anything to offer over Internet
  15. trading other than that personal
  16. touch, which I missed. I am not a
  17. fantastic swapper, I never found the
  18. time to have more than about 20
  19. contacts but I still feel that I
  20. would like to start swapping again.
  21. So I did. And I enjoyed writing the
  22. contact letters to old friends who I
  23. have not heard from in a long time
  24. and I look forward to some great
  25. contact letters coming back through
  26. my mailbox soon. What I do not enjoy
  27. is the unproductive time spent
  28. messing around with the slow, low
  29. capacity old-fashioned floppy disk.

  31. Sorting out floppy disks is not just
  32. unproductive due to their lack of
  33. speed. Each disk contains about a
  34. megabyte, and weighs about 30 grams
  35. (very approximately :) ) which makes
  36. sending it through the post just as
  37. expensive as had you sent it down the
  38. phoneline.

  42. all buy Zip drives? Firstly, they are
  43. not very expensive and come in SCSI
  44. or IDE varieties to suit practically
  45. any Amiga configuration, secondly
  46. they allow you to send 100 floppy
  47. disks worth of data for the price of
  48. one floppy disk. There is no messing
  49. around squeezing files onto the zip
  50. using Quarterback or Diavalo (unless
  51. like me you have a friend who sends
  52. you a ISO image every month or so -
  53. Hi Axl ! ) they allow swappers to
  54. swap quickly and cheaply, more
  55. cheaply than trying to download 100
  56. megs from the net. Even those of you
  57. who refuse to spend any money on your
  58. Amiga any more can get one for the PC
  59. and simply attach a Network PC cable
  60. for around £20 between the two
  61. machines. They are great for backup
  62. and archiving too. (before anyone
  63. suggests it no I don`t work for
  64. Iomega :) )

  66. A 100 megabyte floppy makes
  67. mailtrading a viable alternative to
  68. internet, not just a more attractive
  69. one. So come on all of you elite and
  70. lazy friendship swapping people,
  71. invest in zip drives and lets put
  72. some life back into the mailtrading
  73. scene.
