  14.  G&C: Hello and welcome to an
  15.       interview for the Amiga diskmag
  16.       "Jurassic Pack". Hey, greetings
  17.       to you... how did you get here?
  18.  
  19.  Ty: Hello and happy easter to you. I
  20.      came here by car because I had to
  21.      transport all the presents for
  22.      the AMIGA scene.
  23.  
  24.  G&C: Aren't you being missed at home?
  25.  
  26.  Ty: Mhhh... yes, but I'm often on
  27.      tour for my beloved AMIGA. Thank
  28.      Goodness, all members of my
  29.      family have great understanding
  30.      when it comes to this.
  31.  
  32.  G&C: At the moment a lot is going
  33.       on... Phase5, Haage & Partner,
  34.       Escena etc. What will the future
  35.       be like, in your opinion? Who
  36.       will dominate the market? (Also
  37.       concerning projects like "Kosh",
  38.       etc.)
  39.  
  40.  Ty: All AMIGA fans are welcome. They
  41.      will all make their way but I
  42.      think there should only be one
  43.      direction where we all should go.
  44.      Only united we are strong,
  45.      separation only causes damages at
  46.      the moment.

  48.  G&C: How come you are so committed?
  49.       Is that more a personal or
  50.       business oriented engagement?
  51.  
  52.  Ty: That commitment is of a purely
  53.      personal nature. I like to fight
  54.      for an idea, that's the only way
  55.      to succeed against my American
  56.      friends. I have nothing to lose.
  57.  
  58.  G&C: At the moment I see the danger
  59.       of separation of the already
  60.       small Amiga family. Commitment
  61.       that goes in the right direction
  62.       can't be wrong. But in Poland,
  63.       for instance, the Amiga plays a
  64.       more important role, especially
  65.       when it comes to the demoscene.

  67.  Ty: Segregation? No. Kosh? I've just
  68.      had a great meeting with J.H.
  69.      Haage and Dietrich. We agreed
  70.      that Phase5 will do the new G3
  71.      board and Haage & Partner on the
  72.      other side will develop the 68000
  73.      emulator... so you see there is
  74.      harmony between us!
  75.  
  76.  G&C: Haage & Partner will soon
  77.       develop OS 3.5, unless they are
  78.       already doing so. This is all
  79.       very good but nothing visible to
  80.       the public has happened for
  81.       quite a long time. Isn't it
  82.       already a bit too late? Many
  83.       Amiga fans have already switched
  84.       to other platforms because their
  85.       Amiga was too old, for example
  86.       to PCs.

  88.  Ty: This is quite correct and sad but
  89.      the hard core will be preserved
  90.      for the existing platform. And
  91.      the people that have left for PC
  92.      will come back with flying
  93.      colours as soon as we will have
  94.      started fighting against the
  95.      monopoly! Just wait and see.

  97.  G&C: We will do so... We Amiga fans
  98.       are quite used to waiting for
  99.       something. Mhhh. What will your
  100.       strategy be like? What will the
  101.       marketing look like, how do you
  102.       want to get market shares back?
  103.  
  104.  Ty: I too am accustomed to waiting
  105.      for things. After all, Gateway
  106.      did next to nothing during the
  107.      past two years. They needed the
  108.      time to explore the Amiga. Now
  109.      they have finally understood it.
  110.      Money is one strategy we will
  111.      need to regain the market. And
  112.      Gateway will invest that money.
  113.      Secondly we need the management.
  114.      And I think Jim Collas is the
  115.      right person to bring back the
  116.      Amiga to where it should have
  117.      been for a long time, that is
  118.      back to the top. Gateway are
  119.      masters in marketing affairs.
  120.  
  121.  G&C: Lately Gateway has reacted and
  122.       exchanged some leading persons,
  123.       also to incrase the transparency
  124.       of the company. I've asked
  125.       myself why a company that
  126.       produces PCs is interested in
  127.       supporting a competing computer
  128.       platform.

  130.  Ty: Our operating system is the key.
  131.      Gateway has now realized that and
  132.      is going to take off.

  135.  G&C: In how far do you plan to
  136.       continue to support the
  137.       so-called "Classic Amigas"?
  138.

  140.  Ty: As long as I have something to
  141.      say, always... and that will
  142.      hopefully last for a long time.

  145.  G&C: What do you think about
  146.       organising an "Amiga only"
  147.       exhibition in autumn instead of
  148.       the Computer '99 in Cologne?
  149.  
  150.  Ty: Nothing. We simply need the other
  151.      people in order to show them how
  152.      good and unbeatable we are with a
  153.      technology that hasn't had any
  154.      novelty since 1991. I've already
  155.      engaged myself for Cologne and I
  156.      promise you that it will be a
  157.      superb exhibition.
  158.  
  159.  G&C: Thanks a lot for this
  160.       conversation and thanks to Amiga
  161.       International for sponsoring our
  162.       party last year (Cologne
  163.       Conference '98). A last
  164.       question: What are your wishes
  165.       for the future, regarding your
  166.       private life, your professional
  167.       work, and the Amiga?
  168.  
  169.  Ty: Our Amiga should finally get to
  170.      the place where it ought to be.
  171.      That's my most important target.
  172.      Private: Health, so that I can
  173.      continue to fight for my beloved
  174.      Amiga for a long time. And in the
  175.      professional sense I wish for a
  176.      product, a new one, something
  177.      revolutionary with a thousand
  178.      millions sales like we had in
  179.      1985 ... and that satisfies all
  180.      users.
