PEnter the command string to initialize your modem. You must make sure that Pcompression, protocol and flow control is turned off. If you are having troublePfinding the right init string, select "Modem Quick Config" from this menu. PEnter the command string that should be sent when you hang up your modem. DM Puses both DTR and the hang up command. P PEnter the command used to dial your modem. If you have pulse dialing, it is Pusually ATDP. If you need to dial through an extension, you can also add that Pcommand here. PWhat COM port is your modem attached to? DM and DMSERDRV can only handle com Pports 1-4. If you have a com port that is not in that range, contact SIMPLY PSILLY SOFTWARE and we will try to get a fix to you. PSelect the baud rate you wish to play DOOM at. This baud rate will also be usedPin the DM-Terminal module inside DM. I do not suggest using speeds above 14.4k Pif both machines do not have 16550 UART chips. PWhen Force8250 is toggled on, DM (and DMSERDRV) will force a machine with a P16550 uart chip to act like it has a 8250 (ie: Disable the fifo buffer). Use Pthis if you are playing with a slow machine that does not have a 16550. PEnter the port address (in hex) of your UART port. If you enter 0, DM will try Pto autodetect the default value. Most users should not change this. P PEnter the IRQ number of the system IRQ to use with your com port. If you enter P0, DM will try to autodetect the default value. Most users should not change Pthis value. PIf you are having problems getting your modem to accept your command string, tryPsetting SendWait to 20. This will force DM (and DMSERDRV) to pause for 20 ms. Pafter sending each character to the modem. PIf SendWait did not solve your problem, try setting CmdWait to a value of 1000. PDM (and DMSERDRV) will then pause for a full second after sending a command Pstring. If you still have problems, contact Simply Silly Software. PEnter your Network Socket address. P P PYou can use this field to change the Interrupt Service Routine (ISR) that the Pserial driver and DOOM will use to talk to each other with. Most user will not Pchange this value. Do so only if you are told to be Simply Silly Software. PPlease select your sound card. Note to Pro-Audio Spectrum users. If you have Pyour PAS-16 setup to use IRQ 10, then just select IRQ 5. It will still work. P PPlease select the port address for your music card. Refer to your soundcard's Pusers manual for more information. P PPlease select the soundcard you wish to use for Special Effects (SFX). P P PPlease select the port address for your SFX card. Refer to your soundcard's Puser manual for more information. P PPlease select the IRQ channel for your SFX soundcard. Refer to your Psoundcard's user manual for more information. P PPlease select the DMA channel for your SFX card. Refer to your soundcard's Puser manual for more information. P PDOOM supports 4 channel sound mixing. If your soundcard also supports multi- Pchannel mixing, select the # of channels it can support. PEnter text to be sent via Modem or network with you select Macro 9. P Pto use, press <T>, then ALT-9 during gameplay. PIf DOOM seems real DARK on your monitor, try using a Gamma Correction value Pof 3 or 4. You can also use this to see better in dark areas of the game. P PIf you are playing via modem (or null-serial) from a fast machine to a slow Pmachine (ie: 486 to a 386) set ExtraTics to 2 (or higher). It controls the P# of times DOOM queries the serial driver. You do lose some control though. PUse this option to select High detail or Low detail. This and Screen Size can Pbe used to speed DOOM up on a slower machine. P PUse this bar graph to raise or lower the volume of the music played inside PDOOM. If you are using the CD support in DM for CD audio, then turn the Music Pvolume all the way down. PUse this bar graph to raise or lower the volume of the SFX played inside DOOM. P P PUse this bar graph to change the sensitivity of the mouse. It will greatly Peffect the way you play, if you use the mouse for your control. P PUse this bar graph to select the size of the DOOM window. Hey for a kick, go Pout and set screenblock in the DEFAULT.CFG file to 1. It's cool. P PIf you want to see messages like "Extra Clip", etc., toggle this option on. PAlso, if you want to see what you are typing when sending a message, this must Pbe on. PIf you are using a serial driver other than DMSERDRV or SERSETUP, then you may Pwant to lock out your MODEM.CFG. This will stop DM for ever changing that file Puntil you unlock it. PEnter the filename of the serial driver you wish to use to play DOOM via modem. PI strongly suggest using DMSERDRV (our driver) but you don't have to. If you Pdon't though, you may want to "Lock Out" the MODEM.CFG file. PEnter the filenames of ANY external wad files you wish to load everytime you Pload DOOM. If there is anything in this field, DM will tell DOOM to try t Po load it as an external file. PSelect this box to save your settings in the files "DM.OPT", "MODEM.CFG" and P"DEFAULT.CFG". P PSelect this box to quick back to DM's main menu without saving the settings. P P PSelect this box to read in your MODEM.CFG file and process it. This function Pis really useless and should be removed. P PSelect this box to be transferred to the MODEM QUICK CONFIGURATION Module. PThere you will find over 125 modems, and their setups.
