CPI3D(tm) Demo
--------------
The CPI3D Demo is an interactive demo of our True3D(tm) Game Engine
and CPI3D Game Development System. The demo consists of a small
3D world in which you can walk around and explore the environment.
There is even a room where you will find an idealized aircraft that you
can fly and blast a flying drone. As you make your way through
the demo, please, allow yourself time to take notice of the sophistication
of the technology and its ability to produce real 3D game titles -- not
the sophistication (or lack thereof) of the artwork.
By the way, the online help dialog displays a list of the available key
controls for maneuvering through the demo. Basically, all controls for
the demo are through the keyboard, even though the system supports all
of the standard game input devices.
The horrific creatures that roam about this fictional world are
even more horribly not fictional. They are the ominous likenesses of our
company president. You can reduce him to a bloody heap by shooting rockets
at him from the demo aircraft, but we are sure it will not give YOU as much
pleasure as it does the CPI3D development team.
System Requirements
-------------------
The CPI3D Demo has been designed to run on a fairly robust game system
running the beta version of Windows 95 (build 450), but should still be
usable on less capable systems by turning off some of the rendering
features, using the Full Screen VGA display mode, or by decreasing the demo's
window size, or some combination of these settings.
Minimum System
--------------
486/66 CPU
8MB ram
8-bit mono sound card
8-bit SuperVGA graphics card
640x480x256 display resolution
Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 or later
or
Microsoft Win95 Beta 347 or later
Recommended System
------------------
Pentium 90 CPU
16MB ram
16-bit stereo or higher sound card
8-bit SuperVGA or true color graphics card
640x480x256 display resolution
Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 or later
or
Microsoft Win95 Beta 347 or later
Installation
------------
Installation of the CPI3D Demo is really very simple. Just run the SETUP
program found on Disk 1 and follow the instructions, just like any other
Windows program.
If you downloaded the demo from an online service, unzip the file into
a temporary directory, and then run the SETUP program. The setup will
work just like any other program's setup, it just won't prompt you for
disk changes.
If you should have any problems, we can be reached through any of the
standard means:

Features
--------
This demo was developed to illustrate the principal features of CPI's
True3D(tm) Engine. These features include:
* Astounding frame rates that are PRACTICAL
* Full support for true 3D geometries
* Full 6-degree freedom of movement
* Pixel-perfect texture mapping
* Full support for ambient and point light sources
* BSP-Tree geometry management
* Fast, non-Z-buffered polygonal rendering
* Integrated collision detection
* 3D sound and audio effects
* Integrated real-time, multi-channel audio mixing
* 2D and 3D raster and vector sprites with transparency
* 3D video mapping
* Multiple scalable rendering methods
* Portable multi-threaded 32-bit rendering engine
In addition to the features illustrated in the demo, CPI's True3D
system will be integrated with Microsoft's core technology for
developing great games under Windows 95, including:
* Multiplayer network and modem support through DirectConnect
* 2D and 3D hardware acceleration through DirectDraw, DCI and 3D-DDI
* Device level audio mixing through DirectSound
* Non-standard input and output devices through new device layers
Development Tools
-----------------
CPI has already begun its efforts to produce a sophisticated set
of development tools to integrate the True3D system with existing game
production tools and methodologies. This will initially be done through
geometry and data import mechanisms. Then, extensions and integration
modules for applications like Autodesk's AutoCad and 3D Studio will be
developed for even closer integration into the development process.
Other Platforms
---------------
Even though we are initially supporting what we believe will be the
hottest new game platform of the future: Windows 95 and Windows NT,
CPI is dedicated to moving its technology and support to other
platforms, including: DOS, Mac, Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn,
and Nintendo Ultra 64. Our goal is to develop a fully integrated,
cross-platform, game development system for the future.
Things To Note
--------------
The spinning cube is playing a movie of a boy morphing into a
girl.
Sprites have shadows on them when they pass under the bridge, or
move between rooms where shadows are appropriate.
Try firing a missile at one of the other players and quickly using F1
to jump into the other player's body. You can see the missile blow you
up!
There is a 3DSound in the Round room. Try to find it.
The ESCape key will return you from full-screen VGA back to windows.
Un-Installing The Demo
----------------------
If, at some point, you decide to remove the demo from your computer, you
will need to delete the files we installed. They are:
In your windows directory:
cpidemo.ini
If you did not have WinG Installed before we were installed, we added the
following files to your windows\system directory:
wing.dll
winge.dll
wing32.dll
wingpal.wnd
wingdib.drv
If you already had WinG installed, we didn't put those files there, so
you may not want to remove them.
Delete the directory and all the files in the directory you installed
it to, and use the TaskBar Settings to remove the program group and
icons.
