The pH of solutions changes as you add acid and base to the solution. When working with an acid-base pair the possible pH range is predetermined and it is impossible to make a solution with a pH outside of this range. Because of this, chemists must pick the acid-base pair they work with base on the pH range desired. This module allows the user to find the best acid-base pair to work with in order to match a desired pH.
Instructions
1. Select an initial pH of the red arrow by clicking on the command button.
2. Match the pH of the blue arrow with that of the red arrow.
- Select an acid-base buffer pair to work with.
- Adjust the amount of acid and base used in the solution.
- Click on the calculate pH button to view the pH of the blue arrow.
