  14. PMdiff 4.6 is a fully 32 bit multithreaded application. It is
  15. intended for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.
  16.  
  17. PMdiff will NOT run on Windows 3.x, Win32s, or Windows NT 3.51
  18. or earlier.

  21. INTRODUCTION
  22.  
  23. PMdiff is a visual file comparison application. It works the 
  24. way you work. Visually. Files are displayed side by side.
  25. Differences are highlighted and lines are drawn showing how 
  26. the files are related.
  27.  
  28. PMdiff allows you to select individual changes between two 
  29. versions of a file, and save the resulting merged file.
  30.  
  31. PMdiff is highly configurable. Fonts and colours and other
  32. settings can be altered to show changes in a way that suits 
  33. you. Check out the friendly on-line help for details.
  34.  
  35. PMdiff for Windows 95 and Windows NT lets you compare entire 
  36. folder (directory) trees. You can quickly compare all the 
  37. files in two different directories that are different. Ideal 
  38. for team-working!
  39.  
  40. PMdiff is available for Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0
  41. and IBM OS/2 Warp version 3.0.

  44. INSTALLATION
  45.  
  46. Run the installation program, setup.exe, supplied with the 
  47. package. You can install from floppy or hard disk. 
  48. Alternatively, use the Add/Remove Programs object in the
  49. Control Panel.

  51. Should you wish to uninstall PMdiff, you can use the uninstall 
  52. facility available from the Add/Remove Programs object.

  55. GENERAL NOTES
  56.  
  57. Two pairs of (small!) sample files are provided with PMdiff.
  58. These are installed to the PMdiff installation directory.
  59.  
  60. The files are:

  62.       hippo1.txt, hippo2.txt
  63.   and mary1.txt, mary2.txt
  64.  
  65. You may wish to try comparing these.
  66.  
  67. The Araxis Web site now has three full PMdiff tutorials.
  68. Even if you've used PMdiff before, you will probably
  69. benefit from viewing these.

  72. EVALUATION AND LICENSED VERSIONS
  73.  
  74. PMdiff exists in evaluation and commercial versions.
  75.  
  76. The two version are identical, except that the evaluation
  77. version has an enforced 30 day trial period.

  79. You may use the evaluation version freely for up to 30 days.
  80. The current evaluation version will expire on 31st June 1998.
  81. A new evaluation version will be made available on the 
  82. Araxis web-site at that time.

  84. If you find PMdiff useful and wish to continue using it after
  85. the 30 day evaluation period then you should purchase the
  86. commercial version.

  110. PMdiff 4.6  Menu keyboard mnemonics now work.

  112.             Folder comparison changes:

  114.             + Results are now presented in a proper
  115.               expandable/collapsable tree format.

  117.             + A new pattern filter has been added to the
  118.               folder comparison options page.

  120.             + Files and folders can be hidden temporarily. This
  121.               can be useful for hiding irrelevant files when
  122.               conducting a code review.

  124.             + Comparison progress is now displayed in the status

  127.             + A new filter has been added. It is now possible to
  128.               have the file list contain only those files that
  129.               match the new filter.

  149. PMdiff 4.5  File and folder comparisons can be printed out in
  150.             a variety of different ways.

  152.             Merged files can be viewed and edited within PMdiff
  153.             before saving them.

  155.             The file comparison window can be split 
  156.             horizontally and vertically.

  158.             File comparison and folder comparison windows now 
  159.             have drop-down history lists for file and folder 
  160.             names.

  162.             Text within file comparison windows can be copied
  163.             to the clipboard. Keyboard support within the file
  164.             comparison windows has been greatly enhanced.

  166.             You can search for text within file comparison 
  167.             windows and (also replace text in) merged files.

  169.             Tab expansion within file comparisons is now 
  170.             performed on-the-fly so you no longer lose tab
  171.             characters when saving merged files.

  173.             There is now an option to save merged files with 
  174.             either CR LF or LF line-endings.

  176.             Timestamps for files in the folder comparison 
  177.             window can be toggled on/off. "More recent" files 
  178.             are marked with a red dot.

  181.             start a comparison when they are opened.

  184.             window open at a time.

  190. PMdiff 4.0a You can now use the keyboard (as well as the double
  191.             arrow scroll bar buttons) to jump to the next and
  192.             previous differences. Use Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDn.

  194.             OLE Automation is now supported. Control PMdiff
  195.             from VB, C++ and your favorite office applications!
  196.             The PMdiff.tlb file is a type library which can be
  197.             used from Visual C++, Visual Basic, Visual J++ and
  198.             many other languages. See the on-line help for
  199.             details about exposed objects and their methods and
  200.             properties.

  202.             The "Ignore all whitespace" option now causes 
  203.             PMdiff to ignore different line endings (CR and 
  204.             CR LF) as well as other whitespace. This is useful 
  205.             when comparing documents used on both Unix and PC
  206.             systems.

  208.             Caseless comparisons can now be performed between 
  209.             files.
  210.  
  211.             "Perform thorough comparison" will now always 
  212.             perform a thorough comparison even if file sizes 
  213.             and timestamps don't match.
  214.  
  215.             Folder names can now be specified on the command
  216.             line, and they will be compared within the folder 
  217.             comparison window.

  219.             Numerous other user-interface tweaks.
