  5. This file contains important additional information concerning the use
  6. and operation of TV*Text Professional with version 2.0 of the Amiga's
  7. operating system.  For additional information pertaining to the

  24. INTRODUCTION

  26. TV*TEXT Professional has been designed to run properly under all
  27. versions the Amiga's operating system.  This note deals with
  28. the minor differences in operating the program with Version 2.0
  29. of AmigaDos.

  32. USING COLORFONTS
  33.  
  34. In order to use ColorFonts with AmigaDos versions prior to 2.0, 
  35. it was necessary to run the ColorText program included with this program
  36. prior to running TV*TEXT Professional.  As AmigaDos 2.0 directly supports
  37. the use of ColorFonts, this is no longer necessary.
  38.  
  39. Although no harm is likely to occur, you should NOT run the ColorText
  40. program provided on this disk or any similar program which may
  41. have been provided as part of a font disk or other graphics program
  42. disk when using AmigaDos 2.0.
  43.  
  44. FUNCTION KEYS AND COMMODITIES
  45.  
  46. TV*TEXT Professional permits you to use the function keys on your keyboard
  47. to facilitate the selection of Render Preferences.  
  48.  
  49. Workbench 2.0 includes the Commodities Utility which permits you
  50. to run certain utility programs through the use of function keys.
  51.  
  52. If a Commodities Utility uses the same function keys as TV*TEXT Pro
  53. and if that utility is enabled, TV*TEXT Pro will not respond to
  54. that function key.
  55.  
  56. You can ensure that there is no conflict by using qualifier keys
  57. on all your Commodities function key assignments or by disabling
  58. the commodities when running TV*TEXT Professional.  See your Amiga
  59. manual for additional information on Commodities.
  60.  
  61. OVERSCAN
  62.  
  63. AmigaDos 2.0 now supports overscan screens in a manner which is
  64. compatible with TV*TEXT Professional. 
  65.  
  66. Under 2.0 the system overscan screen dimensions are set through
  67. the Overscan Preference editor.
  68.  
  69. Unfortunately, the many possible combinations of screen modes, overscan,
  70. and scrolling screens can make it difficult to determine the actual
  71. screen size TV*TEXT Professional will use.
  72.  
  73. Basically, you have two options:
  74.  
  75.    1. Let TV*TEXT Professional determine its screen size by setting
  76.       Overscan Preference sizes to their minimum.
  77.    2. Always select NONE in TV*TEXT Professional's Screen Format
  78.       requester and set Overscan Preferences to the desired TV*TEXT
  79.       Professional screen size.
  80.  
  81. There is actually a third option possible of both setting the overscan
  82. preferences and selecting Medium or Maximum from the TV*TEXT Pro
  83. Screen Format requester (or in tooltypes). See the OVERSCAN AND MOREROWS
  84. discussion in the Read.Me note for how TV*TEXT Pro determines its screen
  85. in this case.

  87. We recommend using one of the two options described here for simplicity.

  89. OVERSCAN DETERMINED BY TV*TEXT PRO
  90.  
  91. If you set your overscan sizes to minimum using the WorkBench Overscan
  92. editor, then the degree of overscan in your TV*TEXT Professional 
  93. screens is determined soley by your choice of an overscan mode in
  94. TV*Text Pro's Screen Format requester (or tooltypes). This requester
  95. appears at program startup, or when you select Screen Format from
  96. the Project menu.

  98. The NTSC Screen sizes when Overscan Preferences set to minimum sizes:

  106. To set your overscan size preferences to minimum:
  107.  
  108. 1. Open the Overscan preference editor on Workbench.
  109. 2. Click on "Edit Text Overscan..."
  110. 3. Using the "handles" on the box, size the box as small as possible
  111.    and center it on your screen.
  112. 4. Press "Enter" on your keyboard to keep the change.
  113. 5. Click on the "Edit Standard Overscan..." and repeat steps 3 & 4
  114.    for the box that appears.
  115. 6. At this point this preference editor should display 640 x 200 (NTSC)
  116.    for Regular Text Size, Text Overscan, and Standard Overscan.
  117. 7. Click Save to make the changes permanent.  Click Use to make them
  118.    effective for this current session only.

  120. OVERSCAN DETERMINED BY OVERSCAN PREFERENCES
  121.  
  122. You can use the settings of the Workbench Overscan Preference editor
  123. to determine the size of a TV*TEXT Professional screen if you always
  124. select NONE from the TV*TEXT Pro's Screen Format requester.  To
  125. set your screen size:
  126.  
  127. 1.  Open the Overscan preference on Workbench.
  128. 2.  Click "Edit Standard Overscan..."
  129. 3.  Use the "handles" to set the size of the screen you wish 
  130.     TV*TEXT Pro to use.
  131. 4.  Press "Enter" on your keyboard to keep the change.
  132. 5.  This will return you to the preference editor.  The size of
  133.     a HiRes NoLace screen is indicated in the "Standard Overscan:" 
  134.     field as width x height.  These numbers apply to the Hi-Res,
  135.     NoLace screen mode. To determine the screen dimensions for
  136.     other TV*TEXT Pro screen modes, halve the width figure for Lo-Res
  137.     screens double the height figure for LACE (interlaced) screens.

  149. OVERSCAN SCREEN POSITIONING
  150.  
  151. Under AmigaDos 2.0 you use the Overscan Preference editor to center
  152. or otherwise position your display.  If you are using Overscan Preferences
  153. to set your TV*TEXT Pro screen size, it should not be necessary to
  154. reposition your screen; however, if you choose anything other than
  155. NONE in TV*TEXT Professional's Screen Format requester, it might
  156. be necessary for you to adjust your screen's position as described
  157. in the Read.Me note also on this disk.  The procedure, described
  158. under SCREEN POSITIONING AND OVERSCAN, is the same except for the fact
  159. that with 2.0 you will be using the Overscan Preference editor
  160. to adjust the positioning.  In addition there is only one screen
  161. depth gadget in version 2.0 screens.  Just make sure it is 
  162. fully visible.
