Bobby is a sort of workbench hack, and a sort of game.
You can start Bobby by typing Bobby from the CLI or Shell,
or you can double click the icon from the Workbench.
Bobby works in two modes:- Automatic, or Joystick. You
can change between the modes using the menu items...
Click on the Bobby window to make it the current window
and then use the mouse menu button.
The default mode is 'Auto' - so you will have to use the
menu if you want to steer him yourself!
Bobby gets killed by falling too far, or by colliding
with any sprite (this includes the 'Intuition cursor'
- Bobby is very frightened of that arrow!).
In automatic mode, Bobby will 'sleep' for a random
amount of time after getting killed - usually less than
one minute - before appearing again. In joystick mode
he appears straightaway.
You can change where Bobby appears by moving his window.
This works even if his window is hidden behind lots of
other windows.
Bobby can walk on any odd-numbered colour - This means
that with standard Workbench colours he can walk on
white or yellow - but falls straight through blue or
black.
Start Bobby up, and then just forget about him, and use
your Amiga as normal - He will pop on screen occasionaly,
run around a bit, and then disappear.
He multitasks happily with most Amiga programs, and uses
very little processor time - so he doesn't slow down your
Amiga by more than a few percent.
I have him running around all the time! He's a sort of
built-in friend!
Note that Bobby installs himself as a 'background task'
when run from a shell or CLI, so you don't have to
'run Bobby' or (ugh!) 'runback Bobby' just 'Bobby'.
You can start him up, and then run dpaint or whatever to
create your own (simple) platform game.
Bobby was written in 100% Lattice C. I'm sticking him
in the public domain - hope you like him!
If you have any questions/comments/bug reports etc. please
get in contact! (What BUGS! in *MY* code?) If you start
him from a Shell or CLI, you'll find out how to contact
me.
