  14.    Thank you for purchasing PageSetterII.  May we remind you to

  18.    The following information was inadvertently omitted from the
  19. PageSetterII manual.
  20.  
  21.    1) Page 86: An extra menu item has been added to the "Preferences" menu.
  22. If you are running PageSetterII on its own screen you now have the option
  23. of closing the WorkBench screen.  The state of the WorkBench screen is
  24. indicated by the checkmark in the "Preferences/WorkBench Screen" menuitem.
  25. To close or open the WorkBench screen simply select this menu item.  In
  26. order for the WorkBench screen to be closed, however, you must also close
  27. all application windows on the WorkBench.  If you are running low on memory
  28. closing the WorkBench screen can save as much as 32K of CHIP memory. See
  29. below for other suggestions related to running in a low memory environment.

  31.    2) Page 99: The Hard Disk Install procedure can also be performed from
  32. the WorkBench if desired.  Simply open the "Misc" drawer on the PSUtil:
  33. disk and single click on the HDInstall icon.  Then, while holding down the
  34. SHIFT key, double click on the icon of the drawer or disk partition into
  35. which you wish to install PageSetterII. The Hard disk installation routine
  36. now performs more operations. Please double-click on the HELP-Install icon
  37. in the Misc drawer of the PSUtil: disk for more information.
  38.  
  39.    3) WorkBench TOOLTYPE and Command Line Interface options.
  40.  
  41. Some of the default parameters of the program can now be set on boot-up by
  42. setting the TOOLTYPES of the PageSetterII WorkBench icon.   To change these
  43. settings single click on the PageSetterII icon and select 'Info' from the
  44. 'Workbench' menu. You may add items to the TOOLTYPES by clicking on the
  45. 'ADD' button and typing one of the commands listed below into the TOOLTYPES
  46. string gadget. The supported options are:
  47.  
  48.    a) Screen Type:
  49.  
  50.       SCREEN=WORKBENCH  -  Opens PageSetterII on the Workbench Screen.
  51.       SCREEN=CUSTOM     -  Opens PageSetterII on it's own Screen.
  52.  
  53.       If PageSetterII is run on its own screen you can set interlace
  54.       on or off with the following TOOLTYPE:
  55.  
  56.       INTERLACE=ON
  57.       INTERLACE=OFF
  58.  
  59.    b) Measurement Units:
  60.  
  61.       You may change the internal measurement units used by PageSetterII by
  62.       entering one of the following options:
  63.  
  64.       UNITS=INCH
  65.       UNITS=CM
  66.       UNITS=PICA
  67.  
  68.    c) Default Page Format:
  69.  
  70.       The Default Page size may be set by choosing one of the following
  71.       options:
  72.  
  73.       DEFAULTPAGE=STANDARD
  74.       DEFAULTPAGE=LEGAL
  75.       DEFAULTPAGE=A4
  76.       DEFAULTPAGE=B5
  77.  
  78.    d) Font usage:
  79.  
  80.       FONTS=AMIGA  - use Amiga fonts ONLY.
  81.       FONTS=CG     - use Compugraphic fonts ONLY.
  82.       FONTS=ALL    - use both.
  83.  
  84.    NOTE: If you do not use the Compugraphic fonts the Text output may not
  85.    use the full resolution of your printer.
  86.  
  87.    When you run PageSetterII from the Workbench by clicking on its icon it
  88.    will now start with the default options you have chosen in the
  89.    TOOLTYPES.  If you omit any of these TOOLTYPES the default settings are:
  90.  
  91.       SCREEN=CUSTOM
  92.       INTERLACE=OFF
  93.       UNITS=INCH
  94.       DEFAULTPAGE=STANDARD
  95.       FONTS=ALL
  96.  
  97.       Be sure to to click on the 'SAVE' button to save these settings once
  98.       you are satisfied with them.

  100. If you prefer to start PageSetterII from the CLI you may set these same
  101. options by typing the following
  102.  
  103.    run PageSetterII:PageSetterII -[CLIoptions] [docname]
  104.  
  105. where things in the square brackets are optional. CLI options can be one or
  106. more of the following single character codes (upper or lower case).  These
  107. option MUST be preceeded by a dash (-).
  108.  
  109.    w - Start PageSetterII on the WorkBench Screen
  110.    n - If PageSetterII is started on its own screen open that screen
  111.        in interlace mode (640x400).
  112.    i - set default measurement units to INCHES.
  113.    m - set default measurement units to CM (metric).
  114.    p - set default measurement units to PICAS.
  115.    t - set default Page Size to US Standard (8.5" x 11").
  116.    l - set default Page Size to US Legal (8.5" x 14").
  117.    4 - set default Page Size to A4 (21cm x 29.7cm).
  118.    b - set default Page Sise to B5 (17.6cm x 25cm).
  119.    c - Use ONLY Compugraphic fonts.
  120.    f - Use ONLY Amiga (bitmapped) fonts.

  122. EXAMPLE:
  123.    run PageSetterII:PageSetterII -nm4c test.doc
  124.  
  125.    This will run PageSetterII on its own screen in interlace mode, using CM
  126.    as the default units for measurement, A4 as the default Page Size and
  127.    using only Compugraphic Fonts.  The file "test.doc" will be
  128.    automatically loaded.

  132.    Suggestions for the use of PageSetterII on a 1MB Amiga
  133.  
  134. On a 1 MB Amiga PageSetterII should be fully functional, however there are
  135. situations where memory may run short.  This may happen if you use a large
  136. variety of fonts in a document or if you use many bitmapped or complex
  137. structured graphics. The following procedures will help to alleviate low
  138. memory situations:
  139.  
  140.    1) Avoid the use of large BitMaps and structured graphics.  If possible
  141. crop the BitMap in a paint program so that it contains only the portion
  142. that you intend to show on the page.
  143.  
  144.    2) Once you have positioned your BitMaps on the page free up the image
  145. memory by "Hiding" the contents of the box. This can be accomplished by
  146. selecting the "Hide Contents" gadget in the Box/Alter/Current requester,
  147. or by activating the desired box and hitting CTRL-X. The box will now
  148. appear on the screen with an 'X' through it.
  149.  
  150.    3) If you are using Compugraphic fonts reduce the size of the RAM Cache
  151. to 64K.  See Preferences/Compugraphic Font Control in the manual.  It is,
  152. however, not recommended that you reduce it below 64K.
  153.  
  154.    4) Reduce the size of the Compugraphic disk font caches to only those
  155. sizes that you use regularly by using CacheEdit.
  156.  
  157.    5) If you run out of memory when you try to print it may be because
  158. memory has become fragmented.  Try saving the document and exitting
  159. PageSetterII.  Restart PageSetterII and relaod the document to try again.
  160. Also, you could try printing at a lower density if your printer supports
  161. multiple densities.
  162.  
  163.    6) If you are running PageSetterII on its own screen you can free up the
  164. WorkBench screen memory by the following operation.  Close all application
  165. windows on the WorkBench screen.  Select the "Preferences/WorkBench Screen"
  166. menu option in PageSetterII.  Note that the WorkBench screen can not be
  167. closed if there are still application windows open on it.
