Thank you for purchasing PageSetterII. May we remind you to
return the registration card. This will enable you to take advantage of
Gold Disk's Technical Support services.
The following information was inadvertently omitted from the
PageSetterII manual.
1) Page 86: An extra menu item has been added to the "Preferences" menu.
If you are running PageSetterII on its own screen you now have the option
of closing the WorkBench screen. The state of the WorkBench screen is
indicated by the checkmark in the "Preferences/WorkBench Screen" menuitem.
To close or open the WorkBench screen simply select this menu item. In
order for the WorkBench screen to be closed, however, you must also close
all application windows on the WorkBench. If you are running low on memory
closing the WorkBench screen can save as much as 32K of CHIP memory. See
below for other suggestions related to running in a low memory environment.
2) Page 99: The Hard Disk Install procedure can also be performed from
the WorkBench if desired. Simply open the "Misc" drawer on the PSUtil:
disk and single click on the HDInstall icon. Then, while holding down the
SHIFT key, double click on the icon of the drawer or disk partition into
which you wish to install PageSetterII. The Hard disk installation routine
now performs more operations. Please double-click on the HELP-Install icon
in the Misc drawer of the PSUtil: disk for more information.
3) WorkBench TOOLTYPE and Command Line Interface options.
Some of the default parameters of the program can now be set on boot-up by
setting the TOOLTYPES of the PageSetterII WorkBench icon. To change these
settings single click on the PageSetterII icon and select 'Info' from the
'Workbench' menu. You may add items to the TOOLTYPES by clicking on the
'ADD' button and typing one of the commands listed below into the TOOLTYPES
string gadget. The supported options are:
a) Screen Type:
SCREEN=WORKBENCH - Opens PageSetterII on the Workbench Screen.
SCREEN=CUSTOM - Opens PageSetterII on it's own Screen.
If PageSetterII is run on its own screen you can set interlace
on or off with the following TOOLTYPE:
INTERLACE=ON
INTERLACE=OFF
b) Measurement Units:
You may change the internal measurement units used by PageSetterII by
entering one of the following options:
UNITS=INCH
UNITS=CM
UNITS=PICA
c) Default Page Format:
The Default Page size may be set by choosing one of the following
options:
DEFAULTPAGE=STANDARD
DEFAULTPAGE=LEGAL
DEFAULTPAGE=A4
DEFAULTPAGE=B5
d) Font usage:
FONTS=AMIGA - use Amiga fonts ONLY.
FONTS=CG - use Compugraphic fonts ONLY.
FONTS=ALL - use both.
NOTE: If you do not use the Compugraphic fonts the Text output may not
use the full resolution of your printer.
When you run PageSetterII from the Workbench by clicking on its icon it
will now start with the default options you have chosen in the
TOOLTYPES. If you omit any of these TOOLTYPES the default settings are:
SCREEN=CUSTOM
INTERLACE=OFF
UNITS=INCH
DEFAULTPAGE=STANDARD
FONTS=ALL
Be sure to to click on the 'SAVE' button to save these settings once
you are satisfied with them.
If you prefer to start PageSetterII from the CLI you may set these same
options by typing the following
run PageSetterII:PageSetterII -[CLIoptions] [docname]
where things in the square brackets are optional. CLI options can be one or
more of the following single character codes (upper or lower case). These
option MUST be preceeded by a dash (-).
w - Start PageSetterII on the WorkBench Screen
n - If PageSetterII is started on its own screen open that screen
in interlace mode (640x400).
i - set default measurement units to INCHES.
m - set default measurement units to CM (metric).
p - set default measurement units to PICAS.
t - set default Page Size to US Standard (8.5" x 11").
l - set default Page Size to US Legal (8.5" x 14").
4 - set default Page Size to A4 (21cm x 29.7cm).
b - set default Page Sise to B5 (17.6cm x 25cm).
c - Use ONLY Compugraphic fonts.
f - Use ONLY Amiga (bitmapped) fonts.
EXAMPLE:
run PageSetterII:PageSetterII -nm4c test.doc
This will run PageSetterII on its own screen in interlace mode, using CM
as the default units for measurement, A4 as the default Page Size and
using only Compugraphic Fonts. The file "test.doc" will be
automatically loaded.

Suggestions for the use of PageSetterII on a 1MB Amiga
On a 1 MB Amiga PageSetterII should be fully functional, however there are
situations where memory may run short. This may happen if you use a large
variety of fonts in a document or if you use many bitmapped or complex
structured graphics. The following procedures will help to alleviate low
memory situations:
1) Avoid the use of large BitMaps and structured graphics. If possible
crop the BitMap in a paint program so that it contains only the portion
that you intend to show on the page.
2) Once you have positioned your BitMaps on the page free up the image
memory by "Hiding" the contents of the box. This can be accomplished by
selecting the "Hide Contents" gadget in the Box/Alter/Current requester,
or by activating the desired box and hitting CTRL-X. The box will now
appear on the screen with an 'X' through it.
3) If you are using Compugraphic fonts reduce the size of the RAM Cache
to 64K. See Preferences/Compugraphic Font Control in the manual. It is,
however, not recommended that you reduce it below 64K.
4) Reduce the size of the Compugraphic disk font caches to only those
sizes that you use regularly by using CacheEdit.
5) If you run out of memory when you try to print it may be because
memory has become fragmented. Try saving the document and exitting
PageSetterII. Restart PageSetterII and relaod the document to try again.
Also, you could try printing at a lower density if your printer supports
multiple densities.
6) If you are running PageSetterII on its own screen you can free up the
WorkBench screen memory by the following operation. Close all application
windows on the WorkBench screen. Select the "Preferences/WorkBench Screen"
menu option in PageSetterII. Note that the WorkBench screen can not be
closed if there are still application windows open on it.
