  4. This program converts text from EBCDII to ISO
  5. character format and vice versa. The standard
  6. EBCDII/ISO mapping is used.  Characters which
  7. cannot be mapped  may  be  replaced by either
  8. the bullet ‘•’, which  is the default, or one
  9. of the  characters  ‘·*:.’  or ‘ ’, as EBCDII
  10. and ISO both contain these characters.

  12. 1. How to load TexTrans
  13. ———————————————————————
  14. When you double click on the TexTrans icon in
  15. the filer  window, TexTrans  will  install on
  16. the icon bar to the right.

  18. 2. Memory requirements
  19. ——————————————————————
  20. TexTrans  uses 64 KB of  conventional memory.
  21. You need not to alter the Next Slot; TexTrans
  22. will do that for you.

  24. 3. Compatibility

  26. TexTrans is fully RISC OS 3 compatible.  This 
  27. includes RISC OS versions 3.10 and 3.11.

  31. 4.1 The windows of TexTrans

  33. There are two windows in the TexTrans
  34. application. The first is the main window and
  35. the second is the status window.

  39. To open the main window click with the select
  40. mouse button on the TexTrans icon.

  44. To open the status window you must select the
  45. menu item ‘Status’ in the main window menu.

  48. When you click with  the select button on the
  49. TexTrans icon while  a  file is converted the
  50. status window will be opened.

  77. When you slide off  the  ‘Status’ item in the
  78. main window menu  or  when you click the menu
  79. mouse  button  over  the  status  window  the
  80. following menu will be displayed:

  82. Faster ........ toggles the update function
  83.                 of the text icons in the
  84.                 status window and makes
  85.                 translation faster
  86. Close ......... closes the status window

  88. 5. How to translate a text file
  89. ———————————————————————————————
  90. To translate  a  text  file  drag  it  on the
  91. TexTrans icon on the icon bar.
  92. Note:
  93. • Applications  and   directories  cannot  be
  94.   translated.
  95. • Multible file selection  is  not supported,
  96.   i.e.  only   the   first   file   will   be
  97.   translated, the others are ignored.
  98. • When a file is  being  translated  the main
  99.   window will be  closed. When you click with
  100.   the select  mouse  button  on  the TexTrans
  101.   icon while translation is active the status
  102.   window will be opened.
  103. • If you drag  a  file  on  the TexTrans icon
  104.   while  translation  is  active  a beep will
  105.   sound.

  107. 6. How TexTrans works
  108. —————————————————————
  109. TexTrans is a full  multitasking application,
  110. that means that a  file  is translated in the
  111. background. TexTrans  uses  an  8  KB  buffer
  112. block  to  read, translate  and write a file.
  113. This  ensures, that  the  translation  is not
  114. going to slow down the WIMP extremely.

  116. 7. The TexTrans error messages
  117. ——————————————————————————————
  118. If  an  error  occures  an  error box will be
  119. displayed containing  the reason of the error
  120. and a hint how to solve the problem.

  122. 8. Interactive help
  123. ———————————————————
  124. TexTrans provides  interactive help. You must
  125. load the !Help  application  to  display  the
  126. help messages.
