  12.  Introduction ______________________________________________________________

  14.   SysMerge+ is a utility program to aid the update and maintainance of
  15. !System directories.
  16.  
  17.   Occasionally, Acorn and their Third Party developers will release new
  18. versions of system modules, either to extend the modules’ functionality or
  19. to fix problems.  SysMerge+ removes the difficulty of ‘manually’ installing
  20. these updated modules into the System folder.
  21.  
  22.   Acorn’s own SysMerge utility updates the System directory based on a
  23. module’s date stamp rather than its actual version.  This can lead to
  24. problems where older modules have been given newer date stamps, thus
  25. overwriting newer modules.

  27.   SysMerge+ works differently from this - it compares each module's version,
  28. and only the newer module is copied across.

  31.  Usage _____________________________________________________________________

  33.   Load SysMerge+ by double-clicking on it's icon in a filer window. It will
  34. load and open it's main window in the centre of the screen.
  35.  
  36.   The window consists of three sections: a ‘master’ section, an ‘update’
  37. section and a status display.
  38.  
  39.   Drag your copy of System to the master section and the copy of System you
  40. wish to update it with to the update section.  SysMerge+ will automatically
  41. start to update your master System with any revised modules from the update
  42. System.  Throughout the process, the status display will show what's
  43. happening.

  45.   If your System directory has been seen by the Filer (as it will be in most
  46. cases), then SysMerge+ will determine its location automatically and you
  47. will not need to drag it to the master section.

  52.  · Only the modules and the directory structure will be transferred across
  53.    from the updated copy of System.
  54.    
  55.  · Any application that contains modules can be updated with SysMerge+.  So,
  56.    for example, you could use it to update a Computer Concepts CCShared
  57.    directory.
