CPC emulator frontend
=====================
Use of the CPC frontend should be mostly self-evident, except that:
- to set printer output to file, you can either drag an existing file to
the printer box, or drag the box to a filer window
- the PseuDOS file converter is not correctly operative; use !AmsToArc
instead for the time being
- the slowdown situation is somewhat confusing. Only self-paced
emulation is available under !CPC. This means only negative values for
slowdown will work. Positive values will have the same effect as
negative values, however, and zero will have the same effect as -1 (no
slowdown)
The frontend is now my responsibility, and so all comments should be
addressed to me, as for the emulator itself.
Please look inside the !CPC application inside the !CPC application (!)
for more details on the emulator itself. To look inside an application,
press Shift while double-clicking on its icon.
The following documentation for the frontend is out of date. It will be
updated one day... The documentation for the emulator proper is in
!CPC_Src.
Have fun!

!CPCFront Version 1.00 (28th January 1996)
--------------------------------------------
CPCFront is a desktop front-end to the full version of Mark Rison's !CPC,
an Amstrad CPC emulator for Acorn machines. Please note that from versions
1.00 onwards, CPCFront only caters for the full !CPC. Users of the registered
'test' version can use CPCFront version 0.05, which should be available on
the !CPC registered pages.
Installation
--------------
Copy the !CPCFront application to your hard disk or an empty floppy. Open
up the directory (by holding down SHIFT and double-clicking with the SELECT
button on the mouse). Then copy the !CPC application to that directory.
Reboot the computer to make sure that all directory paths are set up
properly.
Double-click on the !CPCFront application, and after a short while you
should see the CPC icon on the icon bar.
Simple Use
------------
To run the emulator simply click on the CPC icon with the SELECT button.
However, you may wish to alter some of the many options (eg which type of
machine to emulate). In this case click ADJUST over the CPC icon. The setup
window will appear.
The Setup Window
------------------
Here there are many options affecting the operation of the emulator.
Machine Type
Choose which model of the Amstrad CPC range to emulate.
General
Select which screen mode the emulator should run in, and the level
of 'slowdown' which should apply. Slowdown should only be raised
above zero if programs run too fast under the emulator.
Directories
Open the directories containing snapshots, disk images and
PseuDos files here. You may also change the paths, if for some
bizarre reason you may want to!
Please note that at the moment CPCFront does not support the
defining of multiple paths.
Filing
Choose which method of accessing files you wish. Use PseuDOS to use
snapshots and PseuDOS files, and AmsDOS to read disk images (.DSK).
Choose which disk image to load by entering its filename in the
input box. The file will be checked to make sure it exists and it
is a DSK image.
Note that if 'Extension ROMs' is selected on the Advanced window
(see later), then selecting AmsDOS also loads PseuTOS, which allows
snapshots, PseuDOS files and AmsDOS disks to be used together.
There are also three options at the bottom of the window :
Advanced.. : Bring up the 'Advanced Setup' window.
Save Options : Save all selected options (including those in 'Advanced..')
to the !Config file inside the !CPC directory.
Options do not HAVE to be saved to take effect.
Run !CPC : Runs the emulator, the same as clicking with SELECT on the
CPC icon.
The Advanced Setup Window
---------------------------
This contains many options only relevant to the full version of !CPC. The
main areas are :
General
Interrupts : Enable or disable interrupts. Generally a good idea to
enable them!
Parity flag : Do you want the parity flag to be emulated? It is not
used very often, and slows down the emulation.
R Register : Similar to the Parity Flag, emulating the R register
(responsible for random numbers) accurately is costly
on emulation speed.
Extension ROMs : Select this if you want PseuTOS to be loaded up if
'AmsDOS' is selected (under Filing) in the main
setup window.
Debugging : Turn the debugging mode on or off.
Full BCD : Choose to fully emulate the BCD arithmetic or not. This
also slows down the emulation, but is necessary for some
programs to work properly.
Sound
Full : Full sound emulation, but at the moment the noise
function is not reproduced accurately.
No noise : As above, except no attempt is made to reproduce noise.
None : No sound at all.
Screen
Colour : Emulate a colour monitor.
Green : Emulate a green screen monitor. Nasty on the eyes!

could be improved, please write to me at :
mccx4npj@fs2.ee.umist.ac.uk (will last until I get thrown off my course)
or
nige@compsoc.man.ac.uk (should hopefully last a while longer :)
I've also got a web page at http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~nige/
If you haven't got Internet access, then how the hell did you get this?!?!
Regular updates will be made, new versions can be found at the Full CPC web
page (you know the address).
This software is *FREEWARE*, ie no charge should be made for it, and I
retain all copyright to this software.
Right, I think that's it! Hope you like !CPC and !CPCFront as much as I do.
