--- Slaughter ---
-----------------
As the name suggests to the suggestable reader, slaughter is a program that
kills its fellow programs. The 'natural' use is when programming Wimp apps,
and you still haven't properly programmed the "Quit" option, whether by menu
or the TaskManager's Quit menu. What happens is that the program locks,
usually with a small amount of memory, and you have no means to make it go,
unless you have RO3.5.
What Slaughter does is to force this nasty app to quit, even if it's not
prepared to, by Wimp_Close-ing-it-Down. You're prompted for confirmation, but
take care for you could accidentally terminate a program in which data is not
saved. (In RO2, there's a slight difference in that you're not given the name
of the app being killed, so you'll have to guess !).
All you've got to do is to drag the iconbar icon (a dagger) and drop it upon
the window/icon you want to backstab (possibly with a +4 to-hit bonus and
double-damage but that's up to the Dungeon Master to decide ;-) ).
The primary use is to force the new version of Angband to quit without
saving, especially if you don't want the game to remember your fav character
has just died. Another use could be to kill off dead Wimp tasks that refuse
to quit, as stated earlier. I fear all !Slaughter is meant to do is to cause
havoc and destruction (albeit not being a virus).
Disclaimer:
-----------
Sharp-edged weapons are dangerous tools that should be kept away from
children ! If you frequently abort drags because your forefinger weakens in
the middle of it, I simply discourage you to use this program, because you
could accidently kill the pinboard (at best) or the filer (worse).
Once again, take care not to kill an app in which data is not saved (I can't
be made responsible for data loss of any kind).
There is a known bug with !Slaughter not being able to kill the task owning
the iconbar (perhaps because it's the Wimp itself?). I'm sorry but I don't
know how to by-pass that.
As stated above, this program is of little use for RO3.5 (and above) owners
as there is a built-in key press (alt-break if I remember well) that does
just that.
