VNCServe
~~~~~~~~
This is the second release of a VNC server for Risc OS.
What you need
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A RiscPC or A7000[+].
A LAN. Preferably with no-one else using it.
A VNC Client.
256colour Screenmode.
What you don't get
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any warranty :)
Any guarantee of updates.
Anything listed in the "what's left to be done" section.
What's left to be done?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More of a nice front end.
Password support.
Better speed:
Compressed data over the network connection.
Colourdepth support other than 8bpp.
References
~~~~~~~~~~
ORL's details on VNC:
http://www.orl.co.uk/vnc/
That site points to two Risc OS clients:
VNC (Simon Truss)
VNCViewer (Leo White)
Why is it still quite slow?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because there is no compression being done on the data.
Clients
~~~~~~~
This server has been tested with the following clients:
name | notes
----------+--------------------------------------------------
VNC | ok.
VNCViewer | v0.04 needs password to be turned on in server*
| gets colours wrong (it's a server fault, really)
win95 | ok. Seems slower than the Risc OS clients :)
* Server actually accepts *any* password as being valid.
Configuration
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The file !VNCServe.Resources.setup allows you to set two things
about the server. The screen (or display) which accepts the
connection, and whether or not a password is required.
By default, display "1" is used.
Who's responsible for this mess?
