  9. To run the !Pennies Demo all you need to do is double click over !ArcFS and
  10. then over !RunDemo, this will run !Pennies with a set of demonstration
  11. data loaded. !Pennies will run from a compressed state so will take
  12. slightly longer to access data and start up than in it's normal state.
  13. To uncompress it for your own use see DISC SPACE AND COPYING at end of
  14. this text.

  16. If you get the message "File '<Penny$Dir>.!Sprites' not found" then
  17. you have not loaded !ArcFS correctly.

  21. !PENNIES 
  22.  
  23. This version of !Pennies is a cut down version of the full
  24. application, it works correctly and any data created within it is
  25. entirely compatible with the full application. However, there are a
  26. number of facilities such as PRINT missing from this version and some
  27. restrictive limits on the amount of new data that it will accept,
  28. these limitations are explained fully in the 'Technotes' help text
  29. (from !Pennies icon bar menu).

  32. GUIDE AND HELP
  33.  
  34. The 'Guide' text will take you through a tour of !Pennies and describe
  35. how to start your own accounts. The full version of !Pennies is
  36. provided with a manual and set of 2 tutorials which provide a more
  37. complete guide to the application. Both versions include full on line
  38. help in the form of help texts available from within each window and
  39. support for Acorn's Help application. To start the tour double click
  40. over 'Guide' to load the text and then follow the instructions.

  42. DISC SPACE AND COPYING
  43.  
  44. !Pennies will run from a single 800k floppy. In this version with all
  45. the texts and demonstration data as well as it's own data !Pennies
  46. will not fit onto one floppy - hence it is compressed to start with. 
  47. To make use of !Pennies for your own data you will need to uncompress
  48. it by moving it to another location on floppy or hard disc. To do this
  49. open the DemoRun directory to reveal !Demodata and Pennydemo, now open
  50. Pennydemo and drag !Farthing (the small version of !Pennies) to
  51. another location either on another floppy or your hard disc. To use
  52. !Farthing for your own data merely double click over the !Farthing
  53. icon and it will load and run with no accounts loaded.

  55. ***WARNING***
  56.  
  57. !Farthing will happily load and run from the compressed state if you
  58. double click on it's icon, however because it cannot then write to
  59. it's internal data store (because you have the Read Only version of
  60. ArcFS) it will then hang and you may not be able to quit
  61. satisfactorily. CTRL-Break/Reset/On-Off may then be needed to restore
  62. your machine. This will not damage the program in any way but it is
  63. very annoying so please decompress !Farthing by copying it before
  64. using it for your own data.

  66. This does not happen with the demonstration data because the directory
  67. !Demodata is not compressed.
