  17.  Suddenly it happened, whilst casually strolling through my local PC computer shop (To sneer and giggle maniacal at the poor worried faces of prospective buyers), I spied a Windows™ Mouse configuration screen. I stood stock still, my face ashen with dread....  for I had noticed....... You could change the way the mouse buttons worked for left handed people!!!!!

  19.   For I knew that their was no facility to do this in RiscOS. Suddenly my whole world came crashing down around me. There was only one thing to do.....

  25.   Oh well it’s a nice story. The real reason I wrote this is because it was tortuous to watch my girlfriend crunch up her fingers to use the mouse (slight exaduration) and I can’t resist a challenge, especially since I hadn’t written any ARM code (or any machine code come to think of it) before.

  29.   MouseDex is a Relocatable module that can ‘swop’ Select and Adjust on the mouse. This is intended to make it easier for lefthanded people.

  31.   There are two commands involved:

  33.     *Mouse_LeftHanded
  34.  
  35.   Swops Select and Adjust
  36.  
  37.     *Mouse_RightHanded
  38.  
  39.   Returns the mouse to its’ default state. Simple Really!

  43.   I know two people who are left handed and use Arc’s one uses the mouse with his right hand and types with his left. This prevents the RiscOS ‘Mouse Drop syndrome‘ (see later). The other is new (ish) to Arc’s and doesn’t have any of the ingrained habits of us old timers.

  45.   For this reason and others this program may well be JunkWare. See bottom for details.

  50.   Scenario:
  51.  
  52.   You have just opened a Save Box, and let go of the mouse in preparation to typing in a Filename, when you nudge the mouse. This causes you to lose the save box and you have to start again.This is even more infuriating when you have just typed in the Filename!

  54.   This is a very minor niggle that I have with RiscOS. I get round it by typing with my left hand and mousing with my right

  59.   A reasonably famous philosopher once said “90% of every thing is Junk”. This particularly applies to the P.D. end of things. I mean just how many Screen saver do we need? I have *FIVE* Template editors and there must be twice that around. This has lead to the creation of a new subset of the P.D. Software industry ... JunkWare  defined as; “Software that looks appealing in the P.D. libraries catalog/BBS download section but on closer inspection is, well Junk“

  61.   The reason I mention this is that MouseDex is so obvious an idea someone will of thought of it before so this is yet another waste of space on wherever.

  63.   So if you know of any other software that does this job in such a small and tender package, write and tell me and I’ll stop distributing this version and save us all the fate of being drowned under duplicated software.

  90.   This software has *not* been tested on RiscOS 2.00 or above version  3.10. However I am fairly confident it will work.
