This file details how to use the Psion Phoneday tools. It is a modified
version of the original, converted to talk about the functions on the Acorn
Pocket Book and Pocket Book II, rather than refering to the Psion 3 and 3a
This file contains installation instructions for the Psion Phoneday Tools.
You will need to copy some files to the Pocket Book before you can use
them. This has been automated to make it easier.
1. Install PocketFS, conect up Pocket Book and so on.
2. Double click on !Install for the Pocket Book, or !InstallII for the
Pocket Book II
3. Use the running instructions below.
Pocket Book
==========
1. Switch on the computer and go to the System screen. Select
the position where you want the icons for the Psion Phoneday
Tools to be placed.
2. From the "Apps" menu, select "Install application" (Acorn-I).
3. A dialog entitled "Install application" will appear. Locate
the file "Phonefix.app" using the top two file selector
fields.
4. Press Enter. A new icon will appear on the System screen
with the title "phONEfix" underneath.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the file Convert.app.
There should now be a total of two new icons on the System screen, meaning
that you have successfully installed the Psion Phoneday Tools.
Please note that the software may make reference to using WorldFix. This
isn't relevant to the Acorn Pocket Book, which does not have the World
application.
Pocket Book II
=============
You may install the Tools in two ways on the Pocket Book II machine. The
first is exactly as above. The second is to install the Tools as a new
Group. You may prefer to do this, as the Tools will in this case only take
up one icon position on the system screen. To install in this way, follow
these instructions:
1. Switch on the computer and go to the System screen. Select
the position where you want the icon for the Psion Phoneday
Tools group to be placed.
2. From the "Apps" menu, select "Install application" (Acorn-I).
3. A dialog entitled "Install application" will appear. Locate
the file "Phonefix.grp" using the top two file selector
fields.
4. Press Enter. A new icon will appear on the System screen
with the names phONEfix, WLDfix and cONvert underneath it in
slanted writing. These are the three applications which you
have now successfully installed. Each application may be run
by highlighting its particular name under the icon and
pressing Enter.
For more about Groups, see the chapter "The System screen" in
your Pocket Book User Guide.
In case of difficulty
=====================
If you experience problems with either of the above sets of instructions,
you should read thoroughly the chapters "Files and Disks" and "The System
Screen" in your User Guide. These explain the concepts behind applications
and their installation.
Once installed
==============
Run the program phONEfix (and WLDfix on PBII). These provide their own
instructions as they are run, via the Help button. phONEfix will update
phone numbers in Cards databases to the new system.
After running the applications, and having converted your files, you may
wich to remove the applications, to save disc space on the Pocket Book. This
can be done by de-installing the applciations on the Pocket Book (move over
their icon, press Acorn-Y) and then using the !Remove file from the disc.
Convert performs conversions between the two systems 'on the fly'. You may
lie to leave this on your Pocket Book until people have started quoting the
new numbers. Hence this application is removed separately by !RemConv.
