  1. This file details how to use the Psion Phoneday tools. It is a modified
  2. version of the original, converted to talk about the functions on the Acorn
  3. Pocket Book and Pocket Book II, rather than refering to the Psion 3 and 3a
  4.

  7. This file contains installation instructions for the Psion Phoneday Tools.
  8.  
  9. You will need to copy some files to the Pocket Book before you can use
  10. them. This has been automated to make it easier.
  11. 1. Install PocketFS, conect up Pocket Book and so on.
  12. 2. Double click on !Install for the Pocket Book, or !InstallII for the
  13.      Pocket Book II
  14. 3. Use the running instructions below.

  16. Pocket Book
  17. ==========

  19.   1.    Switch on the computer and go to the System screen.  Select
  20.         the position where you want the icons for the Psion Phoneday
  21.         Tools to be placed.
  22.  
  23.   2.    From the "Apps" menu, select "Install application" (Acorn-I).
  24.  
  25.   3.    A dialog entitled "Install application" will appear.  Locate
  26.         the file "Phonefix.app" using the top two file selector
  27.         fields.
  28.  
  29.   4.    Press Enter.  A new icon will appear on the System screen
  30.         with the title "phONEfix" underneath.
  31.  
  32.   5.    Repeat steps 2-4 for the file Convert.app.
  33.  
  34. There should now be a total of two new icons on the System screen, meaning
  35. that you have successfully installed the Psion Phoneday Tools.
  36.  
  37. Please note that the software may make reference to using WorldFix. This
  38. isn't relevant to the Acorn Pocket Book, which does not have the World
  39. application.

  41. Pocket Book II
  42. =============

  44. You may install the Tools in two ways on the Pocket Book II machine.  The
  45. first is exactly as above.  The second is to install the Tools as a new
  46. Group.  You may prefer to do this, as the Tools will in this case only take
  47. up one icon position on the system screen.  To install in this way, follow
  48. these instructions:
  49.  
  50.   1.    Switch on the computer and go to the System screen.  Select
  51.         the position where you want the icon for the Psion Phoneday
  52.         Tools group to be placed.
  53.  
  54.   2.    From the "Apps" menu, select "Install application" (Acorn-I).
  55.  
  56.   3.    A dialog entitled "Install application" will appear.  Locate
  57.         the file "Phonefix.grp" using the top two file selector
  58.         fields.
  59.  
  60.   4.    Press Enter.  A new icon will appear on the System screen
  61.         with the names phONEfix, WLDfix and cONvert underneath it in
  62.         slanted writing.  These are the three applications which you
  63.         have now successfully installed.  Each application may be run
  64.         by highlighting its particular name under the icon and
  65.         pressing Enter.

  71. In case of difficulty
  72. =====================

  74. If you experience problems with either of the above sets of instructions,
  75. you should read thoroughly the chapters "Files and Disks" and "The System
  76. Screen" in  your User Guide.  These explain the concepts behind applications
  77. and their installation.

  79. Once installed
  80. ==============

  82. Run the program phONEfix (and WLDfix on PBII). These provide their own
  83. instructions as they are run, via the Help button. phONEfix will update
  84. phone numbers in Cards databases to the new system.
  85. After running the applications, and having converted your files, you may
  86. wich to remove the applications, to save disc space on the Pocket Book. This
  87. can be done by de-installing the applciations on the Pocket Book (move over
  88. their icon, press Acorn-Y) and then using the !Remove file from the disc.

  90. Convert performs conversions between the two systems 'on the fly'. You may
  91. lie to leave this on your Pocket Book until people have started quoting the
  92. new numbers. Hence this application is removed separately by !RemConv.
