  1.                     Help for !NewPal
  2.  
  3.    Welcome to New Palette ( © 1994 by A.D. Flower )
  4. This utility has been designed to enable older
  5. Acorn machines to emulate the new RISC PC "palette"
  6. utility.
  7.    The utility has a very similar operation to that
  8. of Acorn's new mode selection utility and should
  9. hopefully prove useful as a tool in getting you
  10. used to the Resolution and Colours as opposed to
  11. mode numbers.
  12.    When you load !NewPal it will remove the old 
  13. palette utility and replace it with the !NewPal
  14. icon. When you quit !NewPal the old palette utility
  15. will be automatically re-instated.
  16.    There are two windows supplied with the !NewPal
  17. program one of which is the main change window and
  18. the other is the mode window.
  19.    To access the main window simply click select
  20. over the !NewPal icon on the icon bar. To access
  21. the mode info window you may use the "Mode" option
  22. from the !NewPal menu or you may click with the 
  23. adjust button over the !NewPal icon.

  25.    The Main Change Window

  27.    In this window you will see the current screen
  28. resolution and number of colours. Each of these
  29. items has a pop-up menu icon next to it in order
  30. that you can obtain a list of the available options.
  31.    As an example, to select mode 27 you should 
  32. choose 16 colours and a resolution of 640 x 480.
  33. Clicking on change will change to the selected mode.

  35.    The Mode Info Window
  36.  
  37.    In this window the colours and resolution are 
  38. both shown again but there is an editable field
  39. for mode number.
  40.    This field will always display the current mode
  41. number and you may change mode by simply typing in
  42. the required mode number and then either pressing
  43. RETURN or clicking on the Mode button.

  45.    Currently Available Modes
  46.  
  47.    Some of the resolutions offered on the 
  48. resolutions list may not be available with the 
  49. number of colours that you have selected. If this 
  50. is the case and you select the change button you
  51. will be warned that the mode you have defined is
  52. un-available and the mode that you are currently in
  53. will be retained.
  54.    The selection of modes available is included in
  55. an easy to edit text file within the !NewPal 
  56. application. Simply shift-double click on the 
  57. !NewPal application and then load the "Modes" text
  58. file into !Edit.
  59.    Simply add the mode number, number of colours 
  60. and x and y resolutions to the file and save it.
  61. From then on !NewPal will recognise the new mode
  62. as long as it is actually available for your
  63. machine.
  64.    Modes catered for with the current standard
  65. version of !NewPal (1.20) are :
