Help for !NewPal
Welcome to New Palette ( © 1994 by A.D. Flower )
This utility has been designed to enable older
Acorn machines to emulate the new RISC PC "palette"
utility.
The utility has a very similar operation to that
of Acorn's new mode selection utility and should
hopefully prove useful as a tool in getting you
used to the Resolution and Colours as opposed to
mode numbers.
When you load !NewPal it will remove the old
palette utility and replace it with the !NewPal
icon. When you quit !NewPal the old palette utility
will be automatically re-instated.
There are two windows supplied with the !NewPal
program one of which is the main change window and
the other is the mode window.
To access the main window simply click select
over the !NewPal icon on the icon bar. To access
the mode info window you may use the "Mode" option
from the !NewPal menu or you may click with the
adjust button over the !NewPal icon.
The Main Change Window
In this window you will see the current screen
resolution and number of colours. Each of these
items has a pop-up menu icon next to it in order
that you can obtain a list of the available options.
As an example, to select mode 27 you should
choose 16 colours and a resolution of 640 x 480.
Clicking on change will change to the selected mode.
The Mode Info Window
In this window the colours and resolution are
both shown again but there is an editable field
for mode number.
This field will always display the current mode
number and you may change mode by simply typing in
the required mode number and then either pressing
RETURN or clicking on the Mode button.
Currently Available Modes
Some of the resolutions offered on the
resolutions list may not be available with the
number of colours that you have selected. If this
is the case and you select the change button you
will be warned that the mode you have defined is
un-available and the mode that you are currently in
will be retained.
The selection of modes available is included in
an easy to edit text file within the !NewPal
application. Simply shift-double click on the
!NewPal application and then load the "Modes" text
file into !Edit.
Simply add the mode number, number of colours
and x and y resolutions to the file and save it.
From then on !NewPal will recognise the new mode
as long as it is actually available for your
machine.
Modes catered for with the current standard
version of !NewPal (1.20) are :
1,45,8,34,42,26,38,30,9,46,19,35,43,16,27,39
20,31,13,15,36,24,28,40,21
