  5. This file contains a compilation of recent news from companies in
  6. the Acorn world, mainly announcements for the Acorn World Show. 
  7.  
  8. It is mostly based on press releases issued by the respective companies, 
  9. thus any opinions expressed may be biased. Please note that companies
  10. listed here will not necessarily be exhibiting at Acorn World unless
  11. explicitly stated.

  13.  
  14. 4Mation
  15. -------
  16. 4Mation will be showing its new interactive fiction software titles
  17. at Acorn World, including "A House in Holland" and "Betsi". Old favourites 
  18. such as "Granny's Garden" and "Flossy the Frog" will also be on sale, with
  19. some special show prices available.
  20.  
  21. 4th Dimension
  22. -------------
  23. 4D's big news for the Show is the launch of E-Type 2: The Pink Lady, based 
  24. on the original E-Type game but with many changes and enhancements, 
  25. including a built-in level designer and 2 player split screen option.
  26.  
  27. 4D's sister company for educational software, 10 out of 10 Software, will
  28. be releasing its long-awaited Driving Test software, along with Structured
  29. Spelling, Maths Geometry and Essential Maths.
  30.  
  31. Aleph One
  32. ---------
  33. Aleph One will be showing off its fast 486PC cards for the Risc PC at the
  34. Show. Full specifications and prices should be available, offering greater
  35. performance than the standard Acorn card.
  36.  
  37. Alternative Publishing
  38. ----------------------
  39. AP will be promoting ImageFS, the highly acclaimed package reviewed in this
  40. issue of Eureka. It will also be advertising its specialist DTP, bureau and
  41. print services for Acorn users.
  42.  
  43. ANT Ltd
  44. -------
  45. ANT will be launching some surprise additions to its range of networking 
  46. hardware and software, including facilities to connect Acorn machines to 
  47. a range of Microsoft and UNIX systems.
  48.  
  49. Anglia TV
  50. ---------
  51. Anglia will be demonstrating future CD-ROMs featuring MPEG compressed films
  52. as well as the traditional Replay format. A wide range of existing-format
  53. CD-ROMs will be available, including many new titles. Some packs will be
  54. available containing videos of educational TV programmes and the complete
  55. IT element.
  56.  
  57. Apricote Studios
  58. ----------------
  59. Apricote is launching a new version of Prophet, as well as the new Personal
  60. Accounts application.
  61.  
  62. ARM Ltd
  63. -------
  64. ARM Ltd has been very active, as usual, taking on a number of new staff and
  65. opening new offices. Its products are currently being used by Online Media
  66. as part of its trials of set-top boxes in the Cambridge area. ARM chips are
  67. used in the set-top boxes, video servers and ATM switching modules.
  68.  
  69. Two new versions of the ARM processor have been announced by VLSI Technology,
  70. the 33MHz rated VY86C610C-5 ARM610 processor and the 40MHz VY86C710 ARM710
  71. processor. First ARM8 silicon is expected next year.

  73. Aspex
  74. -----
  75. Aspex will be selling its fast and powerful 3D modelling software Architech
  76. with a special show price.
  77.  
  78. Atomwide
  79. --------
  80. Special Show prices on a range of peripherals and upgrades including 
  81. interface cards, memory expansions and networking products.
  82.  
  83. Beebug
  84. ------
  85. Beebug's new Easy C++ package will be available for the first time along 
  86. with version 2 of Ovation DTP and Sleuth v2. Subscriptions to RISC User will 
  87. be available along with a wide range of former RISC Developments products.
  88.  
  89. Birdtech
  90. --------
  91. Run by Club member Roy Williams, Birdtech will be offering quality printing 
  92. and scanning services to Show visitors - for example, photographs can be 
  93. scanned at a cost of 50 pence plus the price of a disc. Replay snippets 
  94. will also be available on disc at a cost of £1 per disc.

  96. Calligraph
  97. ----------
  98. Calligraph are using the Show to demonstrate their TQ-1200 and A4-1200 laser
  99. printers which print at (optically enhanced 600dpi) 1200dpi at 8 pages per
  100. minute on oversized A3 and A4 paper respectively, as well as other printers.

  102. Cambridgeshire Software House
  103. -----------------------------
  104. CSH will be launching two new products, SecureIT and Helix Compiler, as well
  105. as showing education favourite Frontier 2000 and the Amazing Maths package.
  106.  
  107. Castle Technology
  108. -----------------
  109. Special deals on computer systems will be available from Castle Technology
  110. along with some new SCSI products and a light pen.
  111.  
  112. Clares Micro Supplies
  113. ---------------------
  114. The wide range of Clares' products will be on show, including ProArtisan 24
  115. and Composition, even replacement computer mice! ProArtisan 24 is actually
  116. receiving its official launch at the Show.
  117.  
  118. Colton Software
  119. ---------------
  120. The latest addition to the Fireworkz range, Recordz, will be on show, as 
  121. well as Fireworkz Pro which includes Recordz. Fireworkz for Windows will 
  122. be displayed along with some special offers. Abacus Training will also be 
  123. present on the stand.

  125. Computer Concepts
  126. -----------------
  127. Computer Concepts will be showing a wide range of new products at the Show:

  129. Impression Publisher Plus - a new version for professional users 
  130. incorporating OPI and EPS support, spot colour and named colours, all 
  131. for professional users.

  133. TV Tuner - a TV tuner and teletext input card.
  134.  
  135. Scanlight Professional Colour & PhotoDesk - a superb combination.
  136.  
  137. The Musketeer Pack - Impression Style, Schema2 and DataPower bundled 
  138. together at a large discount. "Acorn Advance Plus"??
  139.  
  140. TurboDriver Version 4.0 - greater compatibility (including Risc PC) and a 
  141. new colour control system. Also network spooling versions and a driver for 
  142. the 720dpi capable Epson Stylus Colour printer.
  143.  
  144. Canon BJC4000 Colour Printer with TurboDriver.
  145.  
  146. Formulix - CC's new advanced formula and equation editor.
  147.  
  148. ArtPad graphics tablets - new tools for artists.
  149.  
  150. ClipArt CD 2 - containing entries from the 1994 Clipart Competition plus a
  151. collection of quality photographic images.
  152.  
  153. One of the major releases from Computer Concepts, Wild Vision, Anglia TV and
  154. Acorn will be "Movie Magic", a range of MPEG video cards for Risc PC 
  155. computers. These allow high-quality VideoCD and certain other formats 
  156. to be displayed. Only the cheaper version will be launched at Acorn World, 
  157. allowing the films to be displayed only on a separate 50Hz PAL RGB monitor 
  158. or TV connected via SCART. Later an enhanced version will be launched 
  159. allowing display on high-end multiscan monitors.

  161. Cumana
  162. ------
  163. Cumana will be selling its wide range of CD-ROM drives and discs including 
  164. the Indigo, Oscar and Bravo CD-ROM drives. Cumana's CD-Net software will be 
  165. on show, as well as PaperOut, Cumana's Electronic Book reading software. 
  166. Look out for some special show offers.
  167.  
  168. Datathorn Systems
  169. -----------------
  170. Datathorn has launched a new Motorola-based "Super Server" advanced 
  171. fileserver for networking computers of all types on the same network, 
  172. including Acorn machines, PCs and Macs. It is said to be the best solution 
  173. for any installation of between 20 and 200 networked computers.
  174.  
  175. Davyn Computers
  176. ---------------
  177. Davyn will be showing its range of games and utilities, including the 
  178. RiscCAD Professional package.
  179.  
  180. DEC_Data
  181. --------
  182. DEC_Data will be launching a new pair of clipart discs entitled "The 
  183. Normans" as well as an Impression Publisher resource disc.
  184.  
  185. Digital Services
  186. ----------------
  187. Squirrel, NetGain, ARMlock, Digistore and Waiter will all be on show as 
  188. usual. Launched at the Show will be Digital Service's new Level 5 
  189. Fileserver for network users.
  190.  
  191. Doggysoft
  192. ---------
  193. Doggysoft will be selling Desktop Hacker as well as their new comms package
  194. Termite. The enhanced Termite Internet package looks particularly 
  195. interesting for anybody who has wrestled with Archimedes KA9Q! Bundles 
  196. including modems and subscriptions to Demon Internet will be on sale.
  197.  
  198. ExpLAN
  199. ------
  200. ExpLAN will be showing HolyBible, a new multimedia version of the Bible, 
  201. along with Occasion which is a multi-user networkable diary system.
  202.  
  203. Fabis Computing
  204. ---------------
  205. Fabis are launching version 3 of EasyFont.
  206.  
  207. GamesWare
  208. ---------
  209. GamesWare are promising to show Playdays - a new educational game, Aries - a
  210. games compilation pack and Wavelength - a new shoot 'em up. It is possible 
  211. that Simon the Sorceror will also make a belated appearance. Several future 
  212. products under development will be shown.
  213.  
  214. HCCS
  215. ----
  216. The Vision 24 video digitisers and Ultimate CD-ROM drives will be on sale.
  217.  
  218. Icon Technology
  219. ---------------
  220. Techwriter and Easiwriter have now been updated with many new features 
  221. including background printing. A new version of Talking StartWrite will 
  222. also be on sale at the Show.
  223.  
  224. Integrex
  225. --------
  226. A wide range of printers and scanners will be on show, possibly including 
  227. the BJC4000 from Canon.
  228.  
  229. IOTA Software
  230. -------------
  231. Iota will be launching a new 24-bit colour scanner based on the MicroTek 
  232. engine priced at £499 + VAT, as well as a new package, The Complete 
  233. Animator.
  234.  
  235. Irlam Instruments
  236. -----------------
  237. More scanners plus some exciting interface cards including the 24i16, a 
  238. combined 24-bit video and 16-bit audio digitiser.
  239.  
  240. Krisalis
  241. --------
  242. Big news is that Krisalis hopes to have Sim City 2000 at the Show. Also 
  243. available will be Cannon Fodder and the new Risc PC desktop versions of 
  244. Lemmings and Oh No! More Lemmings.
  245.  
  246. Longman Logotron
  247. ----------------
  248. Longman will be releasing version 3 of Eureka, the spreadsheet package, and
  249. Revelation ImagePro 24-bit which is intended for the Risc PC. Also on show
  250. will be a range of educational products including Acorn WinLogo, a new 
  251. version of Logo for RISC OS 3. S-Base 2 will be on sale. The PIMS package 
  252. for managing primary schools is now available separately from Acorn 
  253. hardware, priced at £399 ex VAT.
  254.  
  255. Minerva
  256. -------
  257. "Map Importer" converts Ordnance Survey digital map data into drawfiles 
  258. giving access to this widely available resource. It is only available to 
  259. schools. PrimeMover is Minerva's new realtime sprite animation package 
  260. being launched at the Show, and a new version of Ancestry will be previewed 
  261. for release early next year.
  262.  
  263. Northwest SEMERC
  264. ----------------
  265. SEMERC will be launching Informatrix at the Show, a new high resolution 
  266. concept keyboard, Informax its powerful overlay designer software and 
  267. Resound, the very latest in sound digitisers for the Acorn platform.
  268.  
  269.  
  270. Oak Solutions
  271. -------------
  272. Oak will be showing Genesis and Rephorm as well as their new parametric 
  273. 3D CAD package Apollonius.
  274.  
  275. Oregan
  276. ------
  277. Several games will be launched at Wembley, Sally and Wally, BurnOut & 
  278. Arcturus. New versions of PhotoTouch, Morpheus and Digital Symphony will 
  279. be on sale. The new PhotoTouch includes Virtual Memory facilities while 
  280. the new Morpheus is said to run nearly twice as fast with many new 
  281. facilities.

  283. Powerslave Software
  284. -------------------
  285. New games house Powerslave Software will be launching the Acorn conversion 
  286. of Wolfenstein 3D, the hit PC game.
  287.  
  288. Quantum Software
  289. ----------------
  290. The latest version of Keystroke (3.06) will be available at the knock-down 
  291. price of £19.95. Also on show will be Blinds, a new pinboard-type 
  292. application in which windows act as blinds onto which documents can be 
  293. attached, for example.
  294.  
  295. Sherston
  296. --------
  297. As usual, Sherston will be promoting The Crystal Maze as well as other 
  298. titles including Rosie and Jim.
  299.  
  300. Sibelius Software
  301. -----------------
  302. The renowned Sibelius 6 and 7 will be on show including the new versions 
  303. 2.5. Sibelius Software itself has moved into new larger premises in 
  304. Cambridge.
  305.  
  306. SIMTEC
  307. ------
  308. SIMTEC may have some surprises at the Show, as well as the usual innovative
  309. upgrades including upgradeable SIMM modules for the Risc PC.
  310.  
  311. SJ Research
  312. -----------
  313. A range of powerful networking solutions will be on display, including the
  314. ATM-based Nexus systems.
  315.  
  316. Smart DTP
  317. ---------
  318. A variety of Smart's high quality resource packs will be on show at Wembley.
  319.  
  320. SpaceTech
  321. ---------
  322. PhotoDesk will be on sale at a 10% discount to visitors, along with PDSview,
  323. Orrery and other SpaceTech packages. A dye sublimation printer will be shown.
  324.  
  325. TBA Software
  326. ------------
  327. After a prolonged period of silence, TBA Software are back on the scene with
  328. the launch of a number of new games titles.
  329.  
  330. The Serial Port
  331. ---------------
  332. Several popular software titles from David Pilling will be on sale at the 
  333. Show. The Serial Port will be selling modems-galore, including complete 
  334. modem systems with software, as well as a new release of ArcTerm 7.
  335.  
  336. Thomas Nelson and Sons
  337. ----------------------
  338. Many CD-ROM titles will be shown.
  339.  
  340. Topologika
  341. ----------
  342. Topologika recently moved address to Falmouth in Cornwall but has still 
  343. announced several new products including Talking Clocks, four new Talking 
  344. Rhymes and some new resource packs for the award-winning Navigator. The 
  345. RISC OS Mottik software will be launched early next year. Various PC titles 
  346. are available including Music Box for the PC.

  348. Uniqueway
  349. ---------
  350. Uniqueway will be launching a new CD-ROM of PD and similar software 
  351. intended to show off the capabilities of the Risc PC. Called the 
  352. "Risc Disc", it is expected to sell for £19.95 + VAT.
