THIRD PARTY NEWS
================
This file contains a compilation of recent news from companies in
the Acorn world, mainly announcements for the Acorn World Show.
It is mostly based on press releases issued by the respective companies,
thus any opinions expressed may be biased. Please note that companies
listed here will not necessarily be exhibiting at Acorn World unless
explicitly stated.
4Mation
-------
4Mation will be showing its new interactive fiction software titles
at Acorn World, including "A House in Holland" and "Betsi". Old favourites
such as "Granny's Garden" and "Flossy the Frog" will also be on sale, with
some special show prices available.
4th Dimension
-------------
4D's big news for the Show is the launch of E-Type 2: The Pink Lady, based
on the original E-Type game but with many changes and enhancements,
including a built-in level designer and 2 player split screen option.
4D's sister company for educational software, 10 out of 10 Software, will
be releasing its long-awaited Driving Test software, along with Structured
Spelling, Maths Geometry and Essential Maths.
Aleph One
---------
Aleph One will be showing off its fast 486PC cards for the Risc PC at the
Show. Full specifications and prices should be available, offering greater
performance than the standard Acorn card.
Alternative Publishing
----------------------
AP will be promoting ImageFS, the highly acclaimed package reviewed in this
issue of Eureka. It will also be advertising its specialist DTP, bureau and
print services for Acorn users.
ANT Ltd
-------
ANT will be launching some surprise additions to its range of networking
hardware and software, including facilities to connect Acorn machines to
a range of Microsoft and UNIX systems.
Anglia TV
---------
Anglia will be demonstrating future CD-ROMs featuring MPEG compressed films
as well as the traditional Replay format. A wide range of existing-format
CD-ROMs will be available, including many new titles. Some packs will be
available containing videos of educational TV programmes and the complete
IT element.
Apricote Studios
----------------
Apricote is launching a new version of Prophet, as well as the new Personal
Accounts application.
ARM Ltd
-------
ARM Ltd has been very active, as usual, taking on a number of new staff and
opening new offices. Its products are currently being used by Online Media
as part of its trials of set-top boxes in the Cambridge area. ARM chips are
used in the set-top boxes, video servers and ATM switching modules.
Two new versions of the ARM processor have been announced by VLSI Technology,
the 33MHz rated VY86C610C-5 ARM610 processor and the 40MHz VY86C710 ARM710
processor. First ARM8 silicon is expected next year.
Aspex
-----
Aspex will be selling its fast and powerful 3D modelling software Architech
with a special show price.
Atomwide
--------
Special Show prices on a range of peripherals and upgrades including
interface cards, memory expansions and networking products.
Beebug
------
Beebug's new Easy C++ package will be available for the first time along
with version 2 of Ovation DTP and Sleuth v2. Subscriptions to RISC User will
be available along with a wide range of former RISC Developments products.
Birdtech
--------
Run by Club member Roy Williams, Birdtech will be offering quality printing
and scanning services to Show visitors - for example, photographs can be
scanned at a cost of 50 pence plus the price of a disc. Replay snippets
will also be available on disc at a cost of £1 per disc.
Calligraph
----------
Calligraph are using the Show to demonstrate their TQ-1200 and A4-1200 laser
printers which print at (optically enhanced 600dpi) 1200dpi at 8 pages per
minute on oversized A3 and A4 paper respectively, as well as other printers.
Cambridgeshire Software House
-----------------------------
CSH will be launching two new products, SecureIT and Helix Compiler, as well
as showing education favourite Frontier 2000 and the Amazing Maths package.
Castle Technology
-----------------
Special deals on computer systems will be available from Castle Technology
along with some new SCSI products and a light pen.
Clares Micro Supplies
---------------------
The wide range of Clares' products will be on show, including ProArtisan 24
and Composition, even replacement computer mice! ProArtisan 24 is actually
receiving its official launch at the Show.
Colton Software
---------------
The latest addition to the Fireworkz range, Recordz, will be on show, as
well as Fireworkz Pro which includes Recordz. Fireworkz for Windows will
be displayed along with some special offers. Abacus Training will also be
present on the stand.
Computer Concepts
-----------------
Computer Concepts will be showing a wide range of new products at the Show:
Impression Publisher Plus - a new version for professional users
incorporating OPI and EPS support, spot colour and named colours, all
for professional users.
TV Tuner - a TV tuner and teletext input card.
Scanlight Professional Colour & PhotoDesk - a superb combination.
The Musketeer Pack - Impression Style, Schema2 and DataPower bundled
together at a large discount. "Acorn Advance Plus"??
TurboDriver Version 4.0 - greater compatibility (including Risc PC) and a
new colour control system. Also network spooling versions and a driver for
the 720dpi capable Epson Stylus Colour printer.
Canon BJC4000 Colour Printer with TurboDriver.
Formulix - CC's new advanced formula and equation editor.
ArtPad graphics tablets - new tools for artists.
ClipArt CD 2 - containing entries from the 1994 Clipart Competition plus a
collection of quality photographic images.
One of the major releases from Computer Concepts, Wild Vision, Anglia TV and
Acorn will be "Movie Magic", a range of MPEG video cards for Risc PC
computers. These allow high-quality VideoCD and certain other formats
to be displayed. Only the cheaper version will be launched at Acorn World,
allowing the films to be displayed only on a separate 50Hz PAL RGB monitor
or TV connected via SCART. Later an enhanced version will be launched
allowing display on high-end multiscan monitors.
Cumana
------
Cumana will be selling its wide range of CD-ROM drives and discs including
the Indigo, Oscar and Bravo CD-ROM drives. Cumana's CD-Net software will be
on show, as well as PaperOut, Cumana's Electronic Book reading software.
Look out for some special show offers.
Datathorn Systems
-----------------
Datathorn has launched a new Motorola-based "Super Server" advanced
fileserver for networking computers of all types on the same network,
including Acorn machines, PCs and Macs. It is said to be the best solution
for any installation of between 20 and 200 networked computers.
Davyn Computers
---------------
Davyn will be showing its range of games and utilities, including the
RiscCAD Professional package.
DEC_Data
--------
DEC_Data will be launching a new pair of clipart discs entitled "The
Normans" as well as an Impression Publisher resource disc.
Digital Services
----------------
Squirrel, NetGain, ARMlock, Digistore and Waiter will all be on show as
usual. Launched at the Show will be Digital Service's new Level 5
Fileserver for network users.
Doggysoft
---------
Doggysoft will be selling Desktop Hacker as well as their new comms package
Termite. The enhanced Termite Internet package looks particularly
interesting for anybody who has wrestled with Archimedes KA9Q! Bundles
including modems and subscriptions to Demon Internet will be on sale.
ExpLAN
------
ExpLAN will be showing HolyBible, a new multimedia version of the Bible,
along with Occasion which is a multi-user networkable diary system.
Fabis Computing
---------------
Fabis are launching version 3 of EasyFont.
GamesWare
---------
GamesWare are promising to show Playdays - a new educational game, Aries - a
games compilation pack and Wavelength - a new shoot 'em up. It is possible
that Simon the Sorceror will also make a belated appearance. Several future
products under development will be shown.
HCCS
----
The Vision 24 video digitisers and Ultimate CD-ROM drives will be on sale.
Icon Technology
---------------
Techwriter and Easiwriter have now been updated with many new features
including background printing. A new version of Talking StartWrite will
also be on sale at the Show.
Integrex
--------
A wide range of printers and scanners will be on show, possibly including
the BJC4000 from Canon.
IOTA Software
-------------
Iota will be launching a new 24-bit colour scanner based on the MicroTek
engine priced at £499 + VAT, as well as a new package, The Complete
Animator.
Irlam Instruments
-----------------
More scanners plus some exciting interface cards including the 24i16, a
combined 24-bit video and 16-bit audio digitiser.
Krisalis
--------
Big news is that Krisalis hopes to have Sim City 2000 at the Show. Also
available will be Cannon Fodder and the new Risc PC desktop versions of
Lemmings and Oh No! More Lemmings.
Longman Logotron
----------------
Longman will be releasing version 3 of Eureka, the spreadsheet package, and
Revelation ImagePro 24-bit which is intended for the Risc PC. Also on show
will be a range of educational products including Acorn WinLogo, a new
version of Logo for RISC OS 3. S-Base 2 will be on sale. The PIMS package
for managing primary schools is now available separately from Acorn
hardware, priced at £399 ex VAT.
Minerva
-------
"Map Importer" converts Ordnance Survey digital map data into drawfiles
giving access to this widely available resource. It is only available to
schools. PrimeMover is Minerva's new realtime sprite animation package
being launched at the Show, and a new version of Ancestry will be previewed
for release early next year.
Northwest SEMERC
----------------
SEMERC will be launching Informatrix at the Show, a new high resolution
concept keyboard, Informax its powerful overlay designer software and
Resound, the very latest in sound digitisers for the Acorn platform.
Oak Solutions
-------------
Oak will be showing Genesis and Rephorm as well as their new parametric
3D CAD package Apollonius.
Oregan
------
Several games will be launched at Wembley, Sally and Wally, BurnOut &
Arcturus. New versions of PhotoTouch, Morpheus and Digital Symphony will
be on sale. The new PhotoTouch includes Virtual Memory facilities while
the new Morpheus is said to run nearly twice as fast with many new
facilities.
Powerslave Software
-------------------
New games house Powerslave Software will be launching the Acorn conversion
of Wolfenstein 3D, the hit PC game.
Quantum Software
----------------
The latest version of Keystroke (3.06) will be available at the knock-down
price of £19.95. Also on show will be Blinds, a new pinboard-type
application in which windows act as blinds onto which documents can be
attached, for example.
Sherston
--------
As usual, Sherston will be promoting The Crystal Maze as well as other
titles including Rosie and Jim.
Sibelius Software
-----------------
The renowned Sibelius 6 and 7 will be on show including the new versions
2.5. Sibelius Software itself has moved into new larger premises in
Cambridge.
SIMTEC
------
SIMTEC may have some surprises at the Show, as well as the usual innovative
upgrades including upgradeable SIMM modules for the Risc PC.
SJ Research
-----------
A range of powerful networking solutions will be on display, including the
ATM-based Nexus systems.
Smart DTP
---------
A variety of Smart's high quality resource packs will be on show at Wembley.
SpaceTech
---------
PhotoDesk will be on sale at a 10% discount to visitors, along with PDSview,
Orrery and other SpaceTech packages. A dye sublimation printer will be shown.
TBA Software
------------
After a prolonged period of silence, TBA Software are back on the scene with
the launch of a number of new games titles.
The Serial Port
---------------
Several popular software titles from David Pilling will be on sale at the
Show. The Serial Port will be selling modems-galore, including complete
modem systems with software, as well as a new release of ArcTerm 7.
Thomas Nelson and Sons
----------------------
Many CD-ROM titles will be shown.
Topologika
----------
Topologika recently moved address to Falmouth in Cornwall but has still
announced several new products including Talking Clocks, four new Talking
Rhymes and some new resource packs for the award-winning Navigator. The
RISC OS Mottik software will be launched early next year. Various PC titles
are available including Music Box for the PC.
Uniqueway
---------
Uniqueway will be launching a new CD-ROM of PD and similar software
intended to show off the capabilities of the Risc PC. Called the
"Risc Disc", it is expected to sell for £19.95 + VAT.
