Help file for Shutdown+ 1.40
(c) 1994,95 Ian Clark of Rooster PD
If you haven't allready got it, get !StrongEd, it's really good and only £10
Public service anouncement!!!!
Don't, under any circumstance, buy GLOBAL discs, because the resemblance
between these discs and a large steaming pile of dog mess is very large.
Exept that a large steaming pile of dog mess will probably hold data
better.
These disc have an amazing ability to format and verify OK, they then
cheerfully accept all the data that someone gives them **BUT** refuse quite
stubbornley all attempts to read that data. Filer Action windows and File
Recovery utilities are all unable to penetrate their wall of disc errors.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
That was a public service anouncement on behalf of the person who has just
spent several HOURS trying to recover his new copy of !TemplEd.
Introduction
------------
Shutdown+ is a nice little utility designed to replace the standard RISC OS
3 shutdown screen. It works by intercepting Control-Shift-F12 keypresses
and performs the shutdown operation its self. Don't worry this shutdown is
as good as the standard boring one. (In fact it just calls
TaskManager_Shutdown with bit 0 set!)
Use
---
This program is very simple to use, just load it in the normal way and when
you want to shutdown just press Control-Shift-F12. This will bring up the
shutdown window.
The window
----------
The shutdown window has two buttons, yes TWO! The one on the left is the
standard 'Restart' button. It does the same as 'Restart' on the standard
shutdown window. The other button (on the right) is a 'Reboot' button,
clicking on this reboots the computer as if Control-Break was pressed. This
button is also the default action so pressing return will reboot the system.
Desktop save
------------
This program fully supports the desktop save protocol.
History
-------
1.00 - The first version, no problems. It works, that's about all
1.10 (30-09-94) - I have added a tiled backdrop for the window because I
think it looks nice.
1.20 (12-01-95) - Replaced tiled sprite with one borrowed from the Risc PC
removed the one WimpExtension instruction that the program
used, so module is now not needed. I did this ages ago but
I lost the program. Also you now can't crash the program
with a <Ctrl>-<Shift>-F12 when it has shutdown.
1.30 (19-01-95) - You no longer need to hold down <Alt> when trying to quit
the program from the task manager window, don't know why
I didn't do this before. Also, although I didn't need
WimpExtension I still loaded it in the !Run file for some
reason.
1.40 (03-02-95) - Now uses better reset code, (the old code didn't reconise
my IDE interface when it rebooted and I was left
harddiscless!!!)
Improvements
------------
There are not many I can think of, I could probably improve the action of
the 'Restart' button, but I don't use it much so there is not really much
point, it is only there for compatability
I will probably make it so that you can't have two copies of shutdown
running at once, otherwise the program gets confused when you shutdown
And finally...
--------------
This program may be distributed as P.D. so long as the following conditions
are met:-
* It must remain in it's entirity at all times, it must include the
!Run, !Boot, !RunImage, !Sprites, !Sprites22, Sprites, Sprites22
Template and !Help files
* It may not be sold for a profit although a small charge may be made
for the media that it is supplied on.
* It is (c) Copyright 1994,95 Ian Clark and shall remain so!
That was another funky Rooster production.
That was another sad phrase!
