RiscSID V1.00
=============
RiscPC port Copyright (c) 1997 Vincent Penné (also known as Ziggy Stardust from
the Overlanders)
Sid player Copyright (c) 1995,1996 Michael Schwendt
All rights reserved.
This is the first release of RiscSID, a friendly SID music player.
It is based on the Michael Schwendt "SidPlay" program in C++ and has been
ported on RiscPC by Vincent Penné (who is currently writing this masterpiece of
text). If you are not a synthesised C64 (or others) song lover, you can stop to
read now !
To use this program, you just have to double click on it, which will open
the subdirectory ZIC in which you might find some SID tune. (I put some few
tunes already, but it is up to you to add some more) Then, double click on
one of the song will simply play it. The first time, the control window
should appear. You can close it whenever you want, and open it again simply
by clicking on the RiscSID icon that is on the icon bar.
The control window features :
- the song name, the author and the copyright informations,
- the song number ( that you might change with the two arrows next to it ) ,
- a play button ( to start a new selected song number, or simply to restart
from the beginning of the current song )
- a fast forward button ( to ... oh shit, I'm sure you know what that means ! )
- a L/R delay button : when it is on, there is small delay between the left
and right channel, which create a sort of spacial effect. If your output is
not stereo, it will just create a small echo effect ... Oh, yes, don't worry
it you remark a long time before any change seems to be taken in account : it
is just because I am using many sample buffers of advance (because the Wimp
might not Poll my application often enough (for example when you are moving
a window around ...) )
- a NTSC button : it let you force the NTSC mode, in which song should be
faster (screen refresh of 60Hz instead of 50Hz). Note that if the song came
originally from an american game, then this option is useless. It will take
effect only on the next play song button click.
To change the replay rate (which by default is of 21000Hz (works only on
SA !! )), it is rather tricky : you have to set the variable SID$Options to
"-ffreq" (where freq is for example 21000), and then play a music. You have
to be sure that the player was not already running, otherwise the option
will not be taken in account ... To make a definitive change, you might want
to modify in the !BOOT file the "Set SID$Option -f21000".
There is also the option -a, that you might want to use with some song that
don't work (it puts the player in an more compatible mode). But it is better
not to put this option by default since it lowers the accuracy of the
emulation.
Finally, I put some of my favourite song in the ZIC directory. One of them,
called SpellBound, seems not to work ... However I never heard this song on
a real C64, but only the one on my good old Atari ST ( I'm talking about
Mad Max's conversion in the Bid Demo of course ! ) Could anybody tell me if
it sounds normal ?? Also, I'm looking desesperatly for International Karate, the
version I got doesn't work. (but maybe it is a problem with the player)
FILE TYPE
=========
I am currently using the file type number &CCD to denote SID music song. I hope
it is OK for everybody...
KNOWN BUG
=========
- If you type <RETURN> while the cursor is in the song number text, the
control dialog box will close, and you won't be able to reopen it !

Thank to Michael Schwendt for releasing the source code of SidPlay.
