PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE TEXT, AS IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
WHICH CONCERNS ALL USERS OF DARKHORSE.
The directory 'Horses' contains four new screensavers compatible with
only registered version of DarkHorse screensaver, ver 1.00 +.
If you use an unregistered (tut! tut!) version of DarkHorse 1.00, you
will be able to install these savers, but will be limited in use. (see
below for installing new savers). Once installed, an unregistered version
will allow you to load the savers as normal, but will only allow you to
use them once, after which they will be automatically removed from the
savers list. In this way, at least you get a taster of what DarkHorse
can do. For a fully compatible version of DarkHorse you will need to
register yourself as a user.
I'll explain how to register in a moment, but first - for those who don't
know what DarkHorse is :

. provides facility to pass arguments to savers.
. online help on each saver.
. easy to select required saver.
. sleep/no sleep corners.
. ability to disable saver.
. handles all screen modes/palettes/border/colours properly.
. and ofcourse protects your monitor.
DarkHorse screensaver is Copyright KOOL 1993. It is classed as shareware,
which means that if you use it, you need register yourself as a user with
us.
The entire code and graphics are copyright 'Kuldip S Pardesi'

How to obtain DarkHorse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unregistered version
--------------------
An unregistered version of DarkHorse is available from PD libraries
(ie A.P.D.L, Arch-Angel etc), from public-fileservers, bulettin boards
or directly from us by sending a stamped SAE and a blank disk to the
above address.
This unregistered version will only provide limilted usage of new savers
like the ones included with this text, but does allow you to try
DarkHorse before registering. As stated above, DarkHorse is shareware,
so this unregistered version should only be used on a trial basis after
which, you must register if you wish to continue using DarkHorse.
Registered version
------------------
To obtain a registered version of DarkHorse, which will allow you to
run any screensavers including the ones supplied with this text, you
need to register yourself as a user of DarkHorse.
Registration costs only £9.00 sterling.
When you do register I will send you a disk containing your personal
registered copy of DarkHorse embedded with your name and personal
registration code and fill the rest of the disk with other goodies.
On top of that, the version of DarkHorse you receive will be latest,
with all the current savers.
By registering you will be entitled to free upgrades on request and be
given as much support as necessary for you do utilise Dark Horse to
it's maximum capabilities. It also gives me the incentive to continue
developing Dark Horse.
To register, send your name, address and a cheque/postal-order
for £9.00 to :
Please make cheques/postal-orders made payable to 'K.S.Pardesi'
The New Savers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please note, the new savers supplied with this text will only run on
versions of DarkHorse 1.00 and up, due to a change in the fileformat
(see enclosed text 'fileformat' for new format). For this reason I am
able to put these savers and any new savers I create into the public
domain, which can only be used fully by registered users. In this way,
registered users can informed of and be able to obtain new savers much
more easily. Keep an eye out for new savers cropping up in PD libraries,
Bulletin boards and Public fileservers.
The new savers included are inside the directory 'Horses'. To install
them into your personal registered DarkHorse, open up the !DarkHorse
application directory by holding down shift and double clicking on
!DarkHorse. Now open up the 'Horses' directory from within the directory
!DarkHorse, this should contain a handful of saver files already. Now
open up the 'Horses' directory as supplied with this text and copy all
of these files into your '!DarkHorse.Horses' directory.
Now you can load up !DarkHorse as normal, the list of savers from the
options window should now include the following new savers :
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : Goldfish
Author : K.S.Pardesi
Description : This is a version of a classic 'fishtank' saver. The
savers takes no arguments. It displays a handful of
fish swimming across the screen. There's also a sea-
bed which moves using three levels of parallax
scrolling. Wow! sounds impressive... Some people like
the effect of it running in a screen mode with few
colours like mode 0 or mode 8.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : SoundVoice
Author : K.S.Pardesi
Description : This saver provides a graphical view of the amplitude
of the sound-channels 1-4. The argument can be either
0 or non-0 (ie. any value except zero). 0 means
display 4 bouncy bars. non-0 means display 'circles'.
The saver should be activated running along side one
of those desktop sound players like !Protrack or
!Soundtrack. This isn't really the kind of screensaver
most people will use all the time - but it does show
the extremes at which they can be written.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : Sucker
Author : K.S.Pardesi
Description : This saver randomly selects either a corner or the
centre of the screen, and then sucks the desktop
screen into it. In addition, an argument can be
supplied which indicates how many 'suck' iterations
should be made before the screen is littered with
little circles. The little circles are there to
continue the saver once the desktop image has been
fully 'sucked'. A value of zero, will give no circles.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : Bouncer
Author : K.S.Pardesi
Description : This saver bounces two 'balls' back and forth over
the screen. One ball is exactly twice the size of
the other but moves at only half the speed. The two
arguments allow the size of ball and speed to be
set. The speed should be less than 16ish, otherwise
you may find one of the balls dissapears because the
speed step is too large - causing it to jump over
the screen - if this happens try a smaller speed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any problems installing the new savers, have a read of the
textfile 'Manual' from directory 'Docs' as supplied with your copy of
DarkHorse. If you still encounter problems, write or email to the above
addresses.
The actual fileformat of the saver has changed to allow more adventurous
savers to be written, and includes some other little changes to make
writing savers easier. See the text 'FileFormat' which is an updated text,
explaining the new format.
I am eager to get other users to write DarkHorse screensavers. It's
not very difficult if you can program in assembly - and even if you're
still learning, it's a good opportunity to try your hand at something
which can be used by others. If my instructions in the text 'FileFormat'
are too complicated (shouldn't be), or there's something you don't
understand, don't hesitate to contact me. If you have any ideas for a
new screensaver, let me know about that too.
This is only 'DH pack1', look out for more DarkHorse screensaver packs.

If you have any ideas for DarkHorse's future or would like to contact us
for any other reason, write or email to the addresses given above.
KULDIP S PARDESI.
