- This is a StrongHelp manual for Perl, which has been converted from the 'pod'
- format files which come with Perl version 5.001. You will need StrongHelp
- version 2.02 to read this manual.
-
- This manual should be much easier and quicker to use than HTML version, and if
- you use StrongEd to write your Perl programs, you can just press F1 to get help
- on the keyword which the cursor is over (although if you have the BASIC manual
- loaded, it will bring up the BASIC help page where the command exists in both
- languages, unfortunately). Large pages have been split up so that sections are
- on subpages, to improve speed and ease of access.
-
- Although these manuals are for Perl version 5.001, they should still be useful
- if like me you are using Perl 3.041, for which the RISC OS port is smaller and
- more reliable. No modifications have been made to make this manual specific to
- any RISC OS version of Perl, so some unix-specific commands documented will not
- actually be implemented.
-
- Having read the licence agreements for Perl, I am not entirely sure of the
- copyright status of the manual pages when distributed separately. I am
- assuming this Stronghelp file is considered a 'modified package' and may be
- distributed under the same conditions as Perl itself: these conditions can be
- found under the 'Copyright issues' entry at the bottom of the manual's root
- page.
-
- I have tried to check that all the pages have come out OK, but since there is a
- lot of text and my time is limited, they are not guaranteed. Email me if you
- find a serious mess somewhere, or a consistent problem. Known problems:
-
- • The example programs are sometimes hard to read due to line wrapping: you
- should be able to improve this by decreasing the size of the 'Code' style
- used by StrongHelp, thus increasing the number of text columns.
-
- • Indented paragraphs with 'outdented' bullets or labels, like this, are not
- done in an ideal way, due to limitations of StrongHelp.
-
- • If you run the file though 'StrongTest', it brings up errors: these are due
- to faults in StrongTest, not in my manual!
