  10. This chapter describes the rules about copying the Risc-OS Forthmacs Working 
  11. Disk and presents some general information.

  18. My name is Hanno Schwalm.  I have ported Mitch Bradleys "Forthmacs 3.0" to ARM 
  19. based RiscOS computers and I do all support on this implementation.

  21. This file describes our policy about making and giving away copies of 
  22. Risc-OS Forthmacs.  In general, you are free to give away copies of the <strong>original WorkDisc</strong> 
  23. archive subject to a few restrictions.  
  24. <p>
  25. Other Forthmacs-platforms include Apple-Macintosh, Atari, Sun-68k, OS-9 and 
  26. SPARC computers.  Your Risc-OS Forthmacs is as portable to those implementations 
  27. as possible.

  76. <h2>Future versions</h2>
  77. <p>
  78. This Risc-OS Forthmacs currently follows the Forth-83 standard in many ways, 
  79. it's code has been written with portability to other platforms and former 
  80. versions in mind.  It runs almost any software that has been written for 
  81. 'Forthmacs' before or needs very little re-coding.  
  82. <p>
  83. But as time goes by, Risc-OS Forthmacs isn't really state of the art any more.  
  84. There will be updates available quite frequently as I permanently work on 
  85. Risc-OS Forthmacs.  Things still to be done: 
  86. <p>
  87. - ANS standard Forth bindings.  
  88. <p>
  89. - integration in the WIMP environment supporting DDE, throwback and inter-task 
  90. communication.  
  91. <p>

  93. <h2>Site licence</h2>
  94. <p>
  95. A site licence for up to 30 computers in one room is also available for 100£ 
  96. plus 20£ per installation.

  107. Always tell your computer configuration, RiscOS Version and Risc-OS Forthmacs 
  108. Version.

  110. More support is available via the Risc-OS Forthmacs mail-server at 4thware now 
  111. open to the public.  It is using a uucp based Risc-OS Forthmacs server software.

  115. These are the commands available: 
  116. <p>
  117. <strong>help</strong> in the Subject: will send you a detailed help information.  
  118. <p>
  119. <strong>open</strong> starts commands 
  120. <p>
  121. <strong>reply-to:</strong> yourname@yoursite tells the mailserver your address.  
  122. Some mailers have this command in the header, some don't.  You can also use the 
  123. command to redirect output.  
  124. <p>
  125. <strong>cd name</strong> change the directory path to "name", only paths within 
  126. the users 'root-tree' are accepted, illegal paths result in cd 'user-root' 
  127. <p>
  128. <strong>ls </strong> gives a directory listing as in Risc-OS Forthmacs ls.  
  129. <p>
  130. <strong>get name</strong> the file "name" will be send to you if public access 
  131. is allowed.  NO *? ...  allowed 
  132. <p>
  133. <strong>quit</strong> end of commands 
  134. <p>

  138. The user xyz wants a working disk update plus a filelist of available files.

  152. <h2>Bugs</h2>
  153. <p>
  154. Risc-OS Forthmacs is a very solid software.  I don't know of any bugs, but I 
  155. would be pretty surprised if a few aren't hiding in there somewhere.  If you 
  156. find one, send me a letter or mail (presumably after you have sent in your £40) 
  157. and I will probably fix it.  Keep in mind, though, that there is sometimes a 
  158. fine line between a "bug" and a "feature".  Also, in some cases the effort 
  159. required to fix something is way out of line with the benefits; in those cases 
  160. it's often better to find a workaround.  So, no guarantees, but I will do my 
  161. best to make Risc-OS Forthmacs as bug-free as is practical.

  164. <h2>Licensing</h2>
  165. <p>
  166. Suppose that you develop software that runs under Risc-OS Forthmacs and wish to 
  167. distribute your software along with Risc-OS Forthmacs.  If you give away your 
  168. software, you may also give away a copy of Risc-OS Forthmacs with it, so long as 
  169. you give away the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk", with nothing removed.  You 
  170. are free to put it on bulletin boards if you wish, again with the stipulation 
  171. that you put the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk" there.  
  172. <p>
  173. If you plan to sell your software, please get in touch with me so we can work 
  174. out a licensing agreement.  Risc-OS Forthmacs may not be sold as part of any 
  175. system without a licensing agreement.  I will be willing to work out an 
  176. agreement that is fair to both of us.

  181. The complete Risc-OS Forthmacs 3.0 sources plus the Metacompiler are available 
  182. for £40 (100DM or 70$).

  184. <strong>Note:</strong> Feel free to write your software using these sources but <strong>NEVER</strong> 
  185. give away these sources with your software.  Also think about Licensing.

  188. <h2>Copying Fees</h2>
  189. <p>
  190. If you normally charge a fee for making someone a copy of a disk, you may charge 
  191. the same fee for making a copy of the Risc-OS Forthmacs Working Disc, <strong>WorkDisc</strong> 
  192. .  The fee must be based solely on the cost of making the copy, and must be the 
  193. same fee that you charge for a copy of any other disk.

  198. Bradley Forthware and Hanno Schwalm shall have no liability or responsibility to 
  199. any person or entity with respect to any loss or damage caused or alleged to be 
  200. caused directly or indirectly by Risc-OS Forthmacs.  This includes, but is not 
  201. limited to, any interruption of service, loss of business, loss of information 
  202. or that which is rendered inaccurate, or loss of anticipated profits or any 
  203. other consequential or incidental damages resulting from the use of 
  204. Risc-OS Forthmacs, even if Bradley Forthware or Hanno Schwalm has been advised 
  205. of the possibility of such damages.
