- Release notes for J version 6.2
- -------------------------------
-
- 1. Infinities
-
- The IEEE floating point arithmetic standard includes representations for
- positive and negative infinity, and for an undefined or indeterminate
- value. It also specifies how arithmetic and transcendental functions
- should behave using these values. J release 6.2 takes advantage of this
- extended number domain so that more operations return results instead of
- producing errors.
-
- There are bugs in Acorn's implementation of the IEEE standard in their
- floating point co-processor emulator module FPEmulator. In particular,
- infinities are not correctly handled. J version 6.2 does not perform
- correctly where any of the arguments to a function is infinite or
- undefined, except that infinity can be used in the right argument of the
- rank operator.
-
- The implementation converts any such errors caused by the use of infinite
- or undefined values into a domain error.
-
- 2. Risc OS version 3
-
- This product should now work under Risc OS version 3 and above. Earlier
- versions of J for the Archimedes may not have worked properly, as the
- author has been unable to procure a copy of Risc OS 3 for his old
- Archimedes 540, because of long waiting lists, so that he was unable to
- find and cure the problems. This version has been checked independently
- on an A5000 running RISC OS 3.10 and appears to work correctly. However,
- only minimal testing has occurred under RISC OS 3.10, and so problems may
- still exist.
-
- If you have difficulty running this version on your computer, please return
- it to the following address, stating whether you want a refund or want to be
- sent a working version for Risc OS 3 as soon as it becomes available. We
- cannot promise any delivery date at the moment.
