  4. 1. Infinities
  5.  
  6. The IEEE floating point arithmetic standard includes representations for
  7. positive and negative infinity, and for an undefined or indeterminate
  8. value.  It also specifies how arithmetic and transcendental functions
  9. should behave using these values.  J release 6.2 takes advantage of this
  10. extended number domain so that more operations return results instead of
  11. producing errors.

  13. There are bugs in Acorn's implementation of the IEEE standard in their
  14. floating point co-processor emulator module FPEmulator.  In particular,
  15. infinities are not correctly handled.  J version 6.2 does not perform
  16. correctly where any of the arguments to a function is infinite or
  17. undefined, except that infinity can be used in the right argument of the
  18. rank operator.

  20. The implementation converts any such errors caused by the use of infinite
  21. or undefined values into a domain error.

  23. 2. Risc OS version 3
  24.  
  25. This product should now work under Risc OS version 3 and above.  Earlier
  26. versions of J for the Archimedes may not have worked properly, as the
  27. author has been unable to procure a copy of Risc OS 3 for his old
  28. Archimedes 540, because of long waiting lists, so that he was unable to
  29. find and cure the problems.  This version has been checked independently
  30. on an A5000 running RISC OS 3.10 and appears to work correctly.  However,
  31. only minimal testing has occurred under RISC OS 3.10, and so problems may
  32. still exist.
