!LazyPrint Version 2.38 6 March 1997
!LazyPrint sends simple text or Draw files to a Hewlett Packard printer,
allowing easy selection of printer parameters such as paper orientation,
margin sizes and hardware fonts for text printing jobs such as program
listings, simple letters and address labels. Draw and Sprite files can also
be printed at any magnification and position on the page in colour or
black-and-white.
It does this using HP languages within the printer to form the characters,
draw the lines etc. and so is very much faster than the Acorn or
Computer Concepts printer-drivers which send the information as bit-maps.
Sprites are sent as bit-maps for which LazyPrint is no faster than printer
drivers.
Unlike printer drivers, LazyPrint is truly multi-tasking, always allowing
the computer to work on other tasks while it is printing.
!LazyPrint is written in Fortran.
If you want to use this program regularly, you should register to receive
the complete suite of utilities as well as updates and help with problems.
To register, please send your name and address (HP printer model number,
e-mail and phone number are also helpful) together with the £10 registration
fee (to cover the costs of administration and our HP manuals) to the address
at the bottom of this file.
Two applications are distributed to registered users:
1) !LazyPrint: which sends files to the printer
2) !LazyCodes: helps with entering codes in fancy text for !LazyPrint.
Within !LazyPrint there are two programs which are activated by
double-clicking on files of the appropriate type. These are:
1) CSV2Labels: converts CSV (type DFE) to labels (text) in a suitable form
for printing labels from !LazyPrint
2) LPPrint: sends Printout (type FF4) straight to the printer.
Also within LazyPrint is the Basic program 'ThickLine' which allows you
to increase the thickness of the thinnest lines in a Draw file. This is useful
for those who have Draw files containing very thin white lines on a dark
background which are often invisible when printed because spreading ink/toner
covers them up.
Read docs.Manual for details on how to run these programs.
Apart from the usual application files within !LazyPrint there are:
1) Choices: descriptions of the Layouts
2) FontList: Fonts available in the HP printer with correspondence to
RISC-OS fonts.
3) PageList: printer paper sizes
4) 'docs' directory containing
Copyright: (please read this)
DiskGrid: a Draw file template for Disk labels
(Avery L7664 diskette 3.5 70 by 71.9mm)
FaultRep: a form for reporting errors
Manual: detailed instructions on using the programs; this has
fancy formatting codes in it for printing so just dragging
it to the !LazyPrint icon with the default settings
(Layout=Manual) should output an A4 size manual
Versions: a brief history of improvements to !LazyPrint
5) 'examples' directory containing
Chars128: (text) for printing ASCII characters 128 to 159
CSV_Mine: (CSV) for CSV2Labels which then makes 'MyLabels' below
MyDiscs: (text) disk labels
MyLabels: (text) addresses
MyLetter: (text) a letter
Shades: (Draw) showing standard desktop colours as sprite and as
filled paths
ThinBoxes:(Draw) thin lines on a dark background (for 'Thicklines')
