%H4%Author : Stewart Brodie
%H1%%H2%Starting Network Manager
To start Network Manager double click on its icon in a directory
viewer. Errors may be given if there is no room for sprites, or for
the application to start up or if Econet is not fitted to the machine.
When loading has been accomplished, an icon will register on the right
hand end of the icon bar.
%H1%%H2%Using the Network Manager Facilites
Clicking Select or Adjust over the icon bar icon will produce the
program information window.
Click menu when the pointer is over the Network Manager fileserver
icon. A menu will then appear containing the following items :
%H4%Info%H4% - Information about the version of software you are using.
%H4%Password%H4% - Box for changing your password.
%H4%Status%H4% - Box for viewing other users' passwords.
%H4%New User%H4% - Box for creating users, setting free space and privilege.
%H4%Remove User%H4%- Box for deleting users.
%H4%Set Free%H4% - Alter user free space.
%H4%Privilege%H4% - Alter users privilege.

%H4%Set Station%H4%- Set up local station's Econet station number.
%H4%Quit %H4% - Make application exit from memory and cancel icons.
%H1%Info :
This box just contains details about the program and its author. This
box can also be displayed by clicking Select or Adjust over the Manager
icon.
%H1%Password :
When you move over the arrow next to Password on the menu, a window
appears with a box for your old password, and a box for you new
password. To type in a password, click the mouse in the appropriate
box, and type in your password at the caret. You will not be allowed to
type in more than 6 characters, and these characters must be in the
range from number 0, to lower case 'z'. The passwords will only be
displayed as '*'s. When you are satisfied that both passwords are
%P0%
correct, click on %H4%OK%H4%, and if possible, your password will be changed.
Clicking on %H4%CANCEL%H4% will close the window and menu with no other action
taken.
%H1%Status :
Note that this icon is shaded unless Enable has been previously
selected.
When you move over the arrow next to Status, the User Information
window appears. In this window, you must enter the user group and user
name of the particular user. However, wildcards may be used, see below.
When you click on %H4%OK%H4%, a new window will appear, and will contain the
information about users selected. When all the information has been
displayed, click any mouse button to finish the operation. Wildcards
that can be used are # and *. # replaces 1 or no character, whereas *
represents any number of characters. Hence entering both user group and
name as '*' will result in all user information being displayed.
%H1%New User and Remove User :
Note that these icons are shaded unless Enable has been previously
selected.
When you move over the arrow next to New User or Remove User, then the
User Information window will appear again. Enter information in exactly
the same way as described above (except New User cannot use wildcards).
Confirmation messages will appear in the information window during the
operation. When New User is being used, entering a value in Kilobytes
in the Free Space box will also cause that amount of free space being
allocated to that particular user, and the highlighted privilege icon
will be used to assign the user privilege to the new user with Normal
being taken if no option is highlighted.
%H1%Set Free :
Note that this icon is shaded unless Enable has been previously
selected.
Allows you to enter the amount of free space available to any user -
wildcards may be used with this choice.
%H1%Privilege :
This allows you to set the privilege of a user. In the window, click
over the correct type of user and then after entering a user name,
click on %H4%OK%H4%. If no option is highlighted, then Normal will be chosen as
default.
%H1%FS Users :
This will display a list of currently logged on users
%P0%
%H1%Enable :
After this entry has been selected a tick will appear beside it. This
indicates that any of the multi-user options may be used - they will no
longer be shaded and unselectable.
%H1%Ignore More :
This item will be ticked when it is selected. When ticked, any messages
received from other stations when no space is left to store the message
will be ignored.
%H1%Printout :
Click on this item to toggle it. When ticked, any confirmation messages will
be sent to the printer. When this option is on, the time and date will
be printed at the bottom of the printout to aid the Network Manager
with user management.
%H1%Passwords :
Click on this item to toggle it. When ticked, Status will display any
passwords on the screen. This means that status can be used to check
user names, boot options, free space and privilege.
%H1%Protection :
Move over the arrow of this entry to display the Protection submenu.
Click over the relevant flags in the sub menu and write the value to
CMOS Ram if required by choosing Write CMOS.
%H1%Set Station :
Move over the arrow of this entry to display the set station window.
Enter the new station identity in the box, and then click on %H4%OK%H4%. NOTE
that pressing RETURN will not work, so that no accidents can occur.
%H1%Quit :
This option removes Network Manager from memory and frees that memory.
Also all notifications all cancelled from the icon bar.
%P0%
%H1%%H2%Notifications over the Network
This facility allows you to store messages sent to you over the network
by other users in a safe place until you want to read them. This can be
useful especially if you are doing an important operation and do not
wish to be disturbed by Notify commands. When a message is received
from another user, then a new icon will appear on the left hand side of
the icon bar, consisting of a warning triangle and a number underneath
indication which station sent the message. Only ten messages can be
stored however, and any extra will be reported as usual, unless the
Ignore More choice on the main menu has been selected and is ticked. To
read a message, you can click on the icon with either select or adjust.
If select is used, the message is removed from the icon bar after it
has been displayed, otherwise it will remain. Clicking on menu will
produce a message menu. Choosing Read will act just as if you had
clicked Adjust over the icon. Abandon indicates that you do not wish
to read the message, just discard it. Acknowledge will send a reply
back to the sender containing the message "%H4%Message Received%H4%." . This
can only be done once, and will be shaded on the menu once it has been
done. Note that a message can arrive at any time, and will register on
the icon bar as long as the desktop and Network Manager are both active
and all current tasks are multi-tasking.
Information can also be provided by the !Help application and !Spy
(Data Store Software).
