Release 03-06-1996 version 0.10a
God, it's two days before the exams and what am I doing!!!
Well, as you can see, I've been doing the wrong things. No matter - I'm ready
for English and Maths but not Accounting, Physics or Chemistry ...
So, what's changed? Well, a lot.
* !Tornado now is more structured on the insides
* TShell hacked into a form which works with the current kernel - most of the
code isn't in this module - like all the multitasking stuff :(
* TKernel has been so modified it's scary - should be very few bugs now -
especially as I've disabled the entire garbaging routine - why it's buggy, I
don't know but since I've disabled it it's been a world of help.
* Relocatable module support has been implemented, including
Tornado_Register, Tornado_Function and *TModules
* The first relocatable module has been written, TTiming - TTimingT is a demo
of it
* !TornWin is now much faster, and more of it works (less too!). Yes, yes, I
know the scroll arrows don't work, the redraws aren't reliable and sometimes
it loses track of the mouse pointer - but it isn't a priority ATM.
* I've laid out the renderer protocols, ready for creating the window
rendering module.
Okay, so maybe it isn't all that much! But we're a good bit closer to getting
things to multitask!
TTiming on my machine slows it awfully - I'll have to change it to use a
worse resolution - right now you can visually see it slowing things down. Any
improvements on the handling code welcomed!
Also, anyone who wants to do their bit - here's your chance. I'll be looking
for people to write the following soon:
* Kernel's graphic routines (not nice!)
* Kernel's filing system (ranges from easy to very hard, depending on the way
you do it)
Anyone who wants to volunteer, please do! ;) - I'll pass on the hooks you'll
need to fill.
Anyone who wants to try crashing anything, please try. I've tried
exhaustively, and failed. Although I must admit it does lock up every now and
again, although I'd suggest that may not be tornado's fault (try RISC-OS).
Tornado is already using some dubious methods to get around RO shortcomings -
not my fault!
Finally
-=-=-=-
Finally, if you haven't heard yet, there's a web site at
http://www.armature.net.au/~tornado/. I have half updated pages here, and
I'll get around to them sometime.
Also, I have a summer job with Protechnic software in Cambridge this summer.
Thanks are also due to those others who offered me a job but I wasn't able to
take it.
I'll be in London from the 25th June to possibly the 30th - I may also be at
the DDBank meet on that Saturday. If I am, I look forward to seeing you!
Humm - anything else? Oh - it may well be that Protechnic won't let me use
their computers after work - if this is the case I'll try to make other
arrangements, but that failing I may go offline. I'll still keep at tornado
though. ;)
And that, AFAICS, is pretty much that. Let me know what you think!
Cheers,
Niall
