Rucp - a uucp clone for the Archimedes
*************************************************************
DISCLAIMER
The software is copyrighted by the authors of UUPC/extended
and me. You may do whatever you want with it, except
claiming that it's yours or sell it. It is especially
forbidden to put it into PD libraries and charge for it.
Money for disc and postage is OK, but no more. Uploads to
BBSes are welcome!
*************************************************************
This package is based on UUPC/extended version 1.09c by R.H.Lamb
(see Doc.MSDOS-UUPC.README for copyright notice). I do not plan to
maintain UUPC/extended, because it it far too much MSDOS specific.
Instead I decided to create a RISC OS specific package on the basis
of UUPC/extended, so I named it Rucp (RISC OS to Unix copy) and
began a new version numbering.
This is Version 0.11, the first public release. Please report bugs with as
much information as possible to ar@nvmr.radig.de (Andreas Raab, that's me).
Note that I pay for incoming mail.
Better News support will be part of a future version, suggestions are
welcome.
INSTALLATION
------------
Everything is set up for user "ar" and mailserver "hotb" and works
so far. Double-click the !Rucp directory to set up neccessary system
variables.
* Copy the contents of the Library directory to a directory accessible
via Run$Path.
* Edit the "Rucp$User" entry in the !Boot file to your user name
* Change the "default" entry in the Passwd file to your user name
* Rename the UserHome.Andreas directory to your user name
* Examine and change the contents of that directory:
Signature - contains your signature
AltSig - another Signature
Aliases - defines abbrevs for often used mail addresses
RC - misc. options
* Ask the system administrator of your local UN*X box to create a uucp
account for you
* Edit the Systems file according to your new account
* Pray (this is optional)
* type "mail root@foobar" ot the like
The mail should be queued somewhere in the uucp.Spool directory now.
* type "uuio"
If everything is ok, the modem calls the UN*X box and the transfer starts.
If not, go and consult a wizard (not me), RTFM or try again.
Good luck.
