Subject: Acorn Press Release: Sunday Times supplement
Date: 18 Aug 93 10:11:12 GMT
Acorn joins The Sunday Times in special 'Parent Power' supplement
Acorn Computers is teaming up with The Sunday Times in a special promotion
which aims to improve parents' understanding of education and current
educational issues. The full colour supplement will appear in The Sunday
Times for threeconsecutive weeks starting on Sunday August 15th and will
look at aspects of IT in education each week.
Acorn is backing no fewer than six major promotions, offering readers
numerous opportunities to take advantage of a whole variety of special
offers. These range from free videos giving advice and guidance to parents
on IT in education, through to a competition offering schools the chance to
win an IT Bursary for Acorn computing systems worth GBP25K.
The package of special schemes has been designed to offer something for
everyone: parents, children and schools alike. In detail, the promotions are
as follows:
Discounts on the Acorn Pocket Book: readers can collect vouchers from each
of the three special supplements enabling them to buy Acorn's hand-held
portable computer at a reduced price of GBP174.95 - a discount of GBP75 against
the RRP.
Free video: "Computers in Education: a guide for parents": copies of a
specially produced video will be available free to the first 15,000 people
who send in the coupons. The video is aimed at parents of school-age
children and addresses some of the main issues and questions they face when
considering IT in schools today.
SuperChoice family computing weekends: A chance for parents and children to
spend a fun weekend exploring the potential of Acorn computing systems as
well as enjoying a variety of challenging outdoor pursuits at SuperChoice's
Active IT Centres.
'Classroom of the Future' competition to win GBP25K Acorn IT Bursary: a major
competition offering schools the opportunity to win Acorn systems worth
GBP25K.
Even after the special supplements have finished, readers can still continue
to benefit from the following offers:
ClassPack bundles: Vouchers can be collected for and redeemed by schools
against Acorn's ClassPack bundles, offering up to GBP1000 off the pack which
consists of 11 Pocket Books; 11 RAM cards; 11 copies of Schedule, the diary
organiser for the Pocket Book; and an A-Link for connection to a desktop
computer and a mains adaptor.
Discounts on educational software packages: Readers can collect vouchers
over a number of weeks which can then be exchanged by schools for discounts
on a number of leading educational software titles available on Acorn
equipment.
The new Sunday Times section will be supported by a high profile promotional
campaign, including television and press advertising featuring Acorn
computers and information packs and posters which will be directly mailed
to schools throughout the country.
Peter Talbot, General Manager UK Education at Acorn Computers, said the
joint initiative with The Sunday Times was yet another demonstration of
Acorn's firm commitment to the education sector: "As leading suppliers of
computers to schools our policy is first to understand the issues facing
those involved in education today and then to address those challenges with
technology that really will meet their needs, now and in the future.
"The Sunday Times partnership has enabled us to offer not only schools, but
parents and children as well, the opportunity to discover more about IT in
education generally and to take advantage of some excellent offers so they
can experience Acorn systems for themselves."
