  5. Improved PC cards offer increased capabilities & lower cost

  8. The Aleph One 486PC Card has recently been updated to offer improved
  9. expansion capabilities, increase performance and allow a substantial
  10. price reduction of #152 off previous 486/4MB prices. 
  11.  
  12. From the end of March 1994 we will be able to supply PC Cards with the
  13. following enhancements:  
  14.  
  15. -     486SLC chips with clock speeds of 25MHz or 50MHz
  16. -     Upgradeable SIMM memory through 2, 4, 8 or 16MB
  17. -     A 'local' IDE hard disc interface on the PC Card 
  18.  
  19. We shall also offer as options a very-high-speed serial I/O chip
  20. (16550-compatible), and a second serial port, at #25 RRP each + VAT. The
  21. redesigned PC Card will be the same physical size as before (single-width
  22. Podule Eurocard) and will have the features above in addition to the usual
  23. PC Card capacities such as serial and  parallel ports. It will also
  24. incorporate a custom ASIC handling the interface to the Archimedes.

  26. This combination of features will allow     
  27.  
  28. -    Increased I/O speed, with very rapid disc access for 'local' IDE discs
  29.  
  30. -    Very high performance from the 50MHz cpu chip, at #52 below the present
  31. top price
  32.  
  33. Our WINDOWS driver software now supports 800x600 pixel screens in 16
  34. colours, and it will be  supplied at no extra charge with the new design of
  35. Card. We are developing the capacity to sup- port larger screens and more
  36. colours; our design which shares the load between the 486 cpu and  the
  37. Archimedes cpu makes this team very powerful indeed.

  39. Our NETWORK driver software has been field-tested with Netware 3.11 and
  40. Windows for Workgroups 3.0 and shown to perform competently. This will
  41. continue to be offered as an option at #25 per card, with discounts and site
  42. licences for multiple cards.

  44. Prices for updated Cards with 4MB RAM and with no RAM are given below. The
  45. SIMM form RAM  used in these Cards, 72 pin 70ns, x32 or x36, parity
  46. unimportant, is widely available, and we  expect only to stock the 4MB form.
  47. We are willing to quote for other SIMMs on application.
