  5. Acorn Extends Special Pocket Book Promotions

  7. Acorn Computers is extending current special promotions on both its
  8. hand-held  Pocket Book portable computer and on Schedule, the associated
  9. diary and organiser  application, until 31st December 1993.

  11. The Acorn Pocket Book, normally priced at #212.72 ex VAT, will now be on
  12. sale at  just #169.95 ex VAT until the end of the year.

  14. Schedule, which provides a combined diary, personal organiser and timetable
  15. to  complement the Pocket Book's integrated suite of word processing,
  16. spell-checking,  spreadsheet, database, clock and calculator applications,
  17. will continue at the special  introductory price of #16.98 ex VAT, compared
  18. with an RRP of #42.51, until 31st  December.

  20. Throughout the extended offer period, Class Pack rates for both products
  21. will also be  reduced. The Pocket Book Class Pack, which contains 11
  22. machines, an A-link for  connection to Acorn's range of 32-bit RISC
  23. computers and a mains adaptor which  extends Pocket Book battery life when
  24. using the A-link, is available at #1699.50 ex  VAT. The Schedule Class Pack,
  25. consisting of 11 Acorn Schedule SSD ROMs, will  cost just #169.79 ex VAT,
  26. again only until the end of 1993.

  28. Schedule was developed in response to early feedback from Acorn's education
  29. and  consumer Pocket Book customers. Used together with the Pocket Book, the
  30. two  products offer powerful and versatile portable computing functionality.

  32. Mike O'Riordan, Acorn's Sales and Marketing Director, is clear about why the
  33. Pocket  Book is special: "Imagine a full set of the best available
  34. menu-driven applications,  considerable memory capacity and a built-in
  35. computer screen, all in a robust,  ergonomically designed case the size of a
  36. spectacles box. This is what the Acorn  Pocket Book provides; all for the
  37. price of a single user professional software  package."

  39. Acorn's General Manager for UK Education, Peter Talbot, confirms the already 
  40. successful adoption of the Pocket Book in education: "There is now an
  41. installed base  of over 4,000 Pocket Books, many in schools and colleges.
  42. Within a year of launch,  the Pocket Book has taken 11% of the schools'
  43. portable market and this share is still  growing. Trials have established
  44. that the Pocket Book, with special features such as  the built-in spell
  45. checker,  is ideal for educational use, and meets the needs of the  National
  46. Curriculum as a general purpose IT resource across all subjects. Acorn's 
  47. extended promotional prices will enable UK educational establishments to
  48. accelerate  their take up of the Pocket Book."
