  7.         Advanced Bulletin Board Software for the Archimedes
  8.  
  9. Introduction
  10.         Archiboard is a complete system for the operating and maintaining of a
  11. Bulletin Board on the Archimedes. The software is designed to make full use of
  12. the facilities of the desktop environment for easier operation. Nine users can
  13. simultaneously log onto Archiboard at any given time. Any of the users can be
  14. monitored and when appropriate they can either be interrupted or controlled 
  15. directly to guide them around the board; it is also possible to log onto
  16. any line locally, via an inbuilt terminal emulator.

  18. Connectivity
  19.         Archiboard can be configured to accept user logons from two sources:
  20. those logging on via a serial block driver, or those via a network. Network
  21. connections are possible both over Econet and EtherNet, or a combination, as 
  22. the Acorn Universal Network standard is followed. Archiboard can be configured
  23. so that block driver and network connections operate at the same time.

  25. Flexibility
  26.         The appearance of Archiboard to the user is fully configurable. The
  27. operator can redefine all prompts and responses to taste or to suit a language
  28. other than English. How a user interacts with the board is controlled via a
  29. flexible script language based around a simplified C language syntax. To aid
  30. rapid development and to ensure integrity of the online system the scripts are
  31. compiled before their use.

  33. Expandability
  34.         The functionality of Archiboard can be easily extended, by the addition
  35. of special 'slottasks'. Such slottasks increase the range of operations a user
  36. can perform while logged on, such extra functionality appears in the script
  37. language as additional functions.
  38.         Archiboard has also been fully modularised to reduce code duplication
  39. and to allow incremental updates to separate parts of the software. Such an
  40. approach makes it possible for nine users to log onto Archiboard using a
  41. standard 4Mb machine.

  43. Availability
  44.         Archiboard is available now in two versions: Basic (without Network
  45. logon support); and Networked. The price for the Basic system is 45 pounds,
  46. and the Networked system is 65 pounds. Also available is a demo version of the
  47. networked system for 15 pounds, refundable off an order for the full system
  48.
