Version 1.41 of !FinalLook
-=====- -==- -- -========-
Only two real changes since the last version ... but I'm back at Uni so
contact me as M.R.Godbolt@ex.ac.uk !
Directory open has been fixed (I think) but there are lingering problems
with window redrawing ... if anyone can figure out what it is PLEASE
CONTACT ME !!!!!!
Again I tempt fate by saying 'I think I've got the textures to work' !!!!
Please please please tell me if I'm wrong! Unless I'm right of course :-)
Thanks
Matt
Release Notes
-=====- -===-
I'm on holiday at the moment - 5 weeks off to lounge around and program!
This means e-mail takes a while to get to me - I'm currently using a
friend's modem to contact Exeter. However my own 14.4k modem and Demon
account are pending as soon as possible! Apologies for any low-res
graphics that may have crept into the works during this release as my own
SVGA monitor blew up! Many thanks to Mag (Chris Hayman) for the loan of
his low-res monitor - it's better than using the telly in the lounge!
P.S. If anyone knows how to get 256-colour SVGA-resolution modes please tell
me! I would dearly love to have this mode! In theory there will be
enough memory for the mode - but does this exceed VIDC's clock rate?
Thanks :-)
And so the notes ...
• I've sorted out lingering problems with menus - non-indirected menus (such
as the main menu of !Draw) work fine now as do *all* hot-keys such as
PRINT.
• The 'orrible grey blobs the WIMP puts behind text in non-filled sprite/
text icons have been removed at last! Not without problems though - the
WIMP is expecting them there so when any changes occur to the text ie
during selection of the icons it simply overprints the fonts over the top
of whetever was there before! To alleviate this I have decided to remove
the inverting of selected icon text in this case. Instead I have made the
font 'bold' - by making its background colour black as well as its fore-
ground colour. I can't use the actual bold version as the two versions
must be pixel-perfect the same as each other. The only problem I have
found so far is with icons on the iconbar - as I write this text in
StrongED I have RayShade tracing a piccy - as it updates the percentage
completed under its icon it 'smudges' over the previous reading. Any
suggestions on this problem?
This feature can be disabled.
• I have put in a few more safeguards against my patch patching at the wrong
time. This also has the advantage of making it faster when dealing with
non-patch SWIs. Hopefully this will alleviate any problems with other
products such as !Plot - can you get back to me on this one please Andy?
One or two things to note, however - NEVER *EVER* RmFaster either the
WindowManager or Filer 'cos the patch will stop working immediately. I
don't think it will crash but I'm using the fact that the SWIs are called
from ROM to safeguard other programs.
• I now reckon I've sorted out choosing the correct font colours - thanks
to Erwin Gerrits in sunny NZ for his help! Currently I am distinguish-
ing title bars in windows by them having a fore- and background colour of
white in their icon data. If anyone can tell me how to *properly* work
out whether an icon is a title bar armed only with the information the
WIMP passes to its internal icon processing routines please tell me!!
• I have finally decided to put the source code in general release! Don't
faint - I'm normally *very* protective of my programming methods but now
you'll be able to see what the heck it does from my point of view.
Please excuse the label names - I'm not a particularly structured person
and so a label name of .Feedle really *does* mean something to me.
Feel free to tinker with it - at your own risk of course - but *please*
don't distribute your tinkered-with versions without first contacting me
so I can update the source/whatever!
Erm, !FLConfig pending ....
I have only included three windowdrops as it costs me more 'phone bill
to upload any more!
