Description:
!Citation is a database manager which allows the storage, searching, sorting
and formatting of citations for direct output into technical papers. It should
prove useful to anyone involved in writing papers which require extensive lists
of references. It is now in its 8th iteration and version 2 includes most of
the features present on commercial bibliography managers plus some more that
are only possible through RISCOS.
I have always found that collating citations proves to be the most tedious and
error prone part of scientific paper writing. Furthermore each journal dictates
that its citations should be in a (generally unique) specific format so that
when one re-submits a paper to another journal all the citations have to be re-
formatted. !Citation handles output in any format specified by the user using a
simple script language so that once a Subset of references has been selected
from within the database, the style output format can be altered ad nauseum and
saved for repeated use. Selection of citation subsets is facilitated by author/
subject/keyword searching as well as plain old manual selection.
Bulk importing of references from a text/ASCII file is supported so that one
can collect references, say on your Psion/Pocket book or any PC as you go
along, for later addition to your reference database. Support is also provided
for the direct import of Medlars & BIDS computerized database output.
Data is stored in dedicated library directories in a manner similar to the
early Impression documents. It is easy to build up libraries of different
references and use them in !Citation by simply dragging them to the iconbar
icon. Unlimited abstract fields are also available. In this program I have
tried to make extensive use of the drag and drop facilities offered by RISCOS
and not available on other platforms. As well as file drag'n'drop import, text
can be freely dragged in and out of various fields for editing in other
applications as well as the dragging of author names for in-text citations.
