!Help File for !TexPix 1.00 - Kuldip S Pardesi
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This little utility allows images in sprite format to be converted to
textfiles and then even animated. Given a Mode 0 image, TexPix will
scan the image and find an appropriate ASCII symbol to replace each
character size block on screen.
Loading !TexPix
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Simply double click on the !TexPix icon from the filer window, TexPix
will install on the icon bar.
Converting Images to Text
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TexPix will only convert sprites which are in MODE 0. If you have sprites
in other MODES they will first have to be converted to a MODE 0 sprite
either using the PD version of CHANGE-FSI or TRANSLATOR.
Once you have a MODE 0 sprite you can convert it to text. To do this,
simply drag the spritefile onto the TexPix icon. A savebox will appear
from which the textfile can be dragged to a filer window. When this is done
TexPix will start to scan the image, you will be able to see this being
done. When completed the textfile will contain a text-picture. You can view
it using !Edit and even print it out.
HINT : Best results are obtained from sprites containing high contrast
between objects. To acheive a higher contrast when using CHANGE-FSI
set the 'Disable dithering' flag to on, or if you are using
TRANSLATOR turn 'Error Spreading' to 'Off'.
To ensure the correct colours are being converted to text, it is best
to have the sprite palette flag set on.
Animating Text Files
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you convert a number of images into textfiles you can produce an
animation Textpix file. To do this create a directory of a suitable name
and into this store the text-pictures with the filenames set to :
'TexPix'+sequence number, ie. if you had four textfiles, they would be
TexPix1 TexPix2 TexPix3 TexPix4
Then simply drag the directory onto the TexPix Icon, a savebox will pop up
from which the TexPix animation file can be dragged to a filer window to
be saved.
Viewing a TexPix Animation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Simply drag the TexPix Animation file onto the TexPix icon. The animation
will be displayed. Click a mouse button to stop animation.
Desktop Mode
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Included inside this application is a mode module from a previous Archimedes
World cover disk. Called 'NewModes' it provides a Mode 90 which gives a
more compact view of TexPix pictures when viewing with !Edit.
