  1.  What is POST-Ware?

  4. For programs in the Shareware or Careware domain you pay a small amount of
  5. money.  Authors of Public Domain programs expect you to send them a small
  6. amount of money in appreciation.  This does not work. Most people will not
  7. pay for Public Domain programs and they come up with the most astonishing
  8. reasons. Shareware programs are mostly paid for once. After that they are
  9. copied (illegally) many times. 
  10.  
  11. POST-Ware programs are based upon the Human-nature of not wanting to pay for
  12. anything if you can get it for free. Let's face it, the chances of getting
  13. dragged to court by some author are astronomically small. So, knowing this, 
  14. authors of POST-Ware programs don't expect anybody to pay for their efforts.
  15. But they DO like to know whether their program is actually being used
  16. (=copied) and how it performs. So, they request each user to send them a
  17. picture-postcard. This way the author knows that somewhere out there someone
  18. is actually using his program. If he is lucky he'll get all kinds of
  19. postcards from all over the world and he can put them to many uses:

  21. 1. Hang them on the wall as decoration
  22. 2. Look at them to boost his ego when he is feeling down.
  23. 3. Use them as a reference, when applying for a job (success not guaranteed)
  24. 4. You can think of a few more, can't you?

  26. Since the cost of a postcard and stamp are so small, the chances of
  27. receiving a postcard are much bigger than those of receiving any money.
