  4. There are several features which have been added over the months but for one
  5. reason or another haven't been mentioned anywhere.  I don't expect
  6. <em>all</em> my users to be psychic, so here's a list of some of them.
  7.  
  8. <ul>
  9.  
  10. <li>Drag'N'Drop
  11.  
  12. <p>The widespread use of Drag'n'Drop protocols throughout ArcWeb means that
  13. various places can support the arrival of URLs - eg. the Hotlist window.  If
  14. you drag a URL to the hotlist window, it will prompt you for a title, and add
  15. the object to the hotlist.  You can also drag URLs from web pages to other
  16. windows for E-mail address books (if you drag ADJUST then you lose the
  17. mailto: off the front too and end up with just the e-mail address).

  19. <li>Adjust clicks
  20.  
  21. <p>If you click with the <em>ADJUST</em> button on a link, then it will be
  22. opened in a new window.  From version 1.58, this new window opens
  23. immediately, so you can choose more links from the original page whilst
  24. waiting for the other ones to arrive.

  26. <li>Font choices
  27.  
  28. <p>I have found that preformatted text looks a lot better if you set its
  29. aspect ratio to 84% when using Corpus.  You can change this in the Font
  30. Configuration window.  Don't forget to set all 4 types of Preformatted
  31. text to the same, otherwise it'll look weird, though!  The changes will
  32. not take effect unless you Save Options, and the reload the program.

  34. <li>Screen real estate
  35.  
  36. <p>If you have a low resolution display, then I suggest that you turn
  37. off the "Show URL in toolbar" option in the Browser configuration window.
  38. New pages will not have the writable icon containing the current URL
  39. displayed in them, thus releasing more of the vertical display space
  40. for the page itself.

  42. <li>Link activation
  43.  
  44. <p>If you wish to load the destination of a link to disc (for example, if it
  45. is some kind of binary archive), then you should hold down <em>SHIFT</em>
  46. when you click on the link.  If you wish to force ArcWeb to reload an object
  47. then you can hold down <em>CTRL</em> and this acts as if you had gone to that
  48. page and then clicked Reload.  You can use these in combination, so <em>SHIFT
  49. CTRL</em> means reload to disc.

  51. <p>This technique also works in the URL icon at the top of the browser
  52. display window.

  55. <li>Automatic scheme modification
  56.  
  57. <p>When you are typing a URL into one of the writable icons in either the
  58. Open URL dialogue box, or in the URL icon at the top of a display window,
  59. you need not specify the protocol being used.  For example, if you enter
  60. <bq>www.demon.net</bq>then this will be automatically rewritten for you
  61. to<bq>http://www.demon.net/</bq>(http will be guessed because the hostname
  62. starts <em>www</em>.  Other autoinserted schemes include ftp, gopher &
  63. wais.

  65. <li>Relative URLs
  66.  
  67. <p>You can also type relative URLs into those icons.  If you do, they will be
  68. resolved as if the document had contained a link with that destination (so if
  69. the document had a <base> tag, it would be resolved relative to that,
  70. rather than the URL under which it was retrieved (which may have been
  71. different)

  73. <li>Resizing display
  74.  
  75. <p>If you resize the window, then the page is not reformatted to fill the
  76. new size (this could take a long time to do).  To make it redraw, click
  77. ADJUST on the Reload icon.  Alternatively, click
  78. the mouse button in the URL icon at the top of the window, and press
  79. RETURN.  Both of these will rerender the diagram.
