Cue to Track - User Guide (© Ian & Lovell of Sounds Riscy 1994)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Cue to Track has been designed to fill a gap on the Archimedes. Utilising
the new play routines by Phoenix to the full, it offers total control over
your Pro/Soundtracker collection. Updates will become available as new
versions of the QTMTracker module become available; look out for 8 channel
music, as well as Digital Symphony, Coconizer and Tracker compatibility.
To load Cue to Track, simply double click on its icon, or that of a
suitable Pro/Soundtracker file. If a tune is playing when Cue to Track is
loaded, it will leave it playing. Clicking Menu over the iconbar icon will
reveal a menu consisting of the following options...
+----------------+
| Info > | Standard information window
+----------------+
| Control... | Open the control window, allowing control of song
| Monitor... | Monitor VU levels, notes and sample waveforms
| Preferences... | Set up preferences for Cue to Track
| Effects... | Turn certain effects on or off
| Inquiries... | Open the inquiries window, giving all song and sample info
+----------------+
| Save Sample > | Allows you to save the samples in various formats
+----------------+
| Quit | Quit Cue to Track
+----------------+
Control
=-=-=-=
This window displays the song name, its position (of a total) and its
speed. It also allows you to control the song with the rewind, play, pause,
stop (and kill music), and cue buttons (in that order). There is also a
volume slider to control the overall output volume. Close this window in
the normal manner.
Monitor
=-=-=-=
This will take you out of the desktop, and to a single tasking display of
sample waveforms, VU meters and the current notes for all channels. To
return to the desktop, simply click any of the mouse buttons. Note: This
facility may not function correctly (due to non-standards in music files),
but will return to the desktop if this is the case.
Preferences
=-=-=-=-=-=
One of the major features of Cue to Track is the preferences it offers to
the user. Once options are selected, they may be saved to disc using the
save icon, scraped using the cancel icon, or just set up using the OK icon.
Sample quality
--------------
This determines the timing between bits of information being passed to the
sound system. A low value will result in higher quality music, with the
side effect of the machine running slower. A higher value will allow a
compromise between speed and quality. Values of 16 to 99 micro-seconds are
acceptable. Note: to get the best sound from you machine, a filter bypass
kit is an essential purchase.
Iconbar Select action
---------------------
This determines what happens when you click Select with the mouse pointer
over the iconbar icon. You can choose which windows will open.
Iconbar Adjust action
---------------------
As above, but with Adjust button.
Stereo position
---------------
The stereo positioning for all four channels can be set up here, with a
number of preset values available by clicking on the relevant icon (eg Full
Left will set all the channels' stereo settings to full left).
Misc
----
These allow you to choose whether to kill the music, module, or both
(remember, killing the module will also kill the song!). There is also an
option to turn the internal speaker on or off.
Effects
=-=-=-=
This window gives you control of the song of a more technical nature. It
allows you to turn certain effects, caused by the tune, on or off. A shaded
icon represents an effect that is turned off. An effect can be toggled by
clicking Select on its icon. To close this window, click on OK. Note: for
more information on what each effect does, see the accompianing 'Effects'
file file.
Inquiries
=-=-=-=-=
This window gives lots of information on the current tune. It shows all
sample data, along with name, author, time, memory usage etc. An added
bonus in this window is that samples can be played with the keyboard, when
the pointer is over the relevant icon. Click on OK to close this window.
Save samples
=-=-=-=-=-=-
To save one of the samples from the tune, simply choose it's number using
the left/right arrow icons, the format you require to save in (use the
window's toggle size icon here), and drag the file icon to a filer window in
the normal RISC OS manner. Samples can be saved in Tracker, Armadeus, raw
linear (signed) or raw logarithmic formats.
