- New v1.1.7 ROM for packet tnc. - Advance info.
-
- New v1.1.7 of AX25L2V2 EPROM TNC firmware is on beta test; release is
- imminent, and features include:
-
- TRUE CWID It is recognised that the v1.1.6 implementation of morse
- identification produced AFSK modulating tones, and not true CW. v1.1.7
- corrects this by inhibiting audio output during 4wpm morse keying of the
- PTT line: lower speed allows use of this feature by a much larger body
- of listeners. The CWIDTEXT buffer is expanded to 4096 bytes, giving room
- for complete location & station description to be sent using real CW.
-
- SPEECH ID allows users to implement the ITU/DTI option of station
- identification by speech as well as morse. v1.1.7 ROM contains a speech
- synthesiser generating callsign ID using a new phonetic alphabet espec-
- ially developed to avoid confusion. See the appendix to this bulletin.
-
- BUILT-IN NODE: NET/ROM and TheNet compatible allowing every public-
- spirited packeteer the opportunity afforded by the new UK licence to
- run his or her own node. So as to better keep up with the constantly-
- changing route map, NODES broadcasts occur every 5 minutes, and accom-
- modate 16384 entries.
-
- BETTER BUGS In contrast to v1.1.6 which had whizz-kid bug hunters
- sending out bulletins within a few days of its release, v1.1.7 features
- much more elusive bugs, activated occasionally by the TNC's random numb-
- ers generator. These include CVINF (Computer Virus Infect) which adds
- segments of extra code within executable files transfered when the TNC
- is in TRANSPARENT mode.
-
- BULLITEN CONFORMITY A CHEKKER WHICH IS THE INVERSE OF A WORD PROC
- ESSOR SPELING AND PUNKTUASHUN CHEKKER AND THIS MAKES SURE THAT YOUR
- BULLITENS LOOK LIKE EVRYBODY ELSES BULLITENS AND THIS INCLUDES
- **SUBJECT EXPANDER** TO ENSURE BULLITEN SUBJECTS GO OFF THE EDGE OF THE SCRE

- Send your (serious!) suggestions for 1.1.7 to TAPR @ TUCSON BBS
- and NOT to GU3MBS @ GB7GUR! 73, Steve

-
- APPENDIX v1.1.7 will use the following in its SPEECH ID facility:
-
-
- THE GUERNSEY PHONETIC ALPHABET
-
- Most amateurs will be aware of confusion on the bands caused by all the
- different phonetic alphabets in use. Attempts by bodies such as the Inter-
- national Telecommunications Union to impose a uniform alphabet have come
- to nothing, and the alphabet suggested by the UK license is widely ignored.
-
- The time has come for the confusion to end, and for Guernsey to lead the
- World in the adoption of a new and better alphabet !!
