  2. The Risc BBC?

  5.   When my dad was working at Cambridge (poly) in 1981, he came
  6. across a research student at the (proper) University's computer science
  7. department using a BBC to design a circuit board.  When asked what he
  8. was doing, it turned out that he was designing a RISC chip for local
  9. company Acorn, on a BBC model B!  It was, quite sadly, connected to a
  10. VAX supermini computer (the best number-cruncher at the time) on the
  11. main Cambridge network hub, but that still didn't stop the aspiring
  12. student from using a decent machine to design his chip; one that we
  13. all use and treasure today, thirteen years on.
