  5.   Well after Acorn's effort called NewLook, it's a wonder Doggysoft
  6. didn't get there first, but there here now. OK, so NewLook is quite good,
  7. but you don't really recognise any difference until you start using the
  8. applications. For some reason, Acorn still use the old 310-type 
  9. filesystem icons even on the RiscPC which, you'd think would of been
  10. replaced by new 3d icons for the new 3d Desktop; but no. NewLook was
  11. really for 2meg+ owners as it uses quite an amount of memory as all the
  12. replacement files were loaded in at once in a module. Doggysoft have
  13. decided against this and loads in replacement code as it needs it, but
  14. unfortunately this is only really useful for hard disc owners. It offers
  15. replacement templates for most Wimp operations and new sprites for
  16. hundreds of icons. Perhaps some more time could of been spent
  17. designing the icons as they have a "cartoony" style.

  19.   NewerLook also comes with some very useful modules. It contains a
  20. new transparent DragASprite module which flickers so as not to lose any
  21. of the image on non-multisync monitors, which I don't like, but still very
  22. useful as it can be used on RISC OS 2 machines as well as RISC OS 3
  23. machines. I don't know about you but I load in quite a few 3d
  24. replacement sprites in my boot-up sequence and I hate it when badly-
  25. behaved applications replace them with the old icons or their efforts at
  26. redesigning. Doggysoft have made a module that stops certain icons
  27. from merging with the sprite pool which is very useful. Also in the pack
  28. is a replacement hourglass, although I don't like this and prefer to use the
  29. one designed by Lovell which is like the Acorn one, but is bigger and in
  30. full colour.
