This application is a demonstration version of the template editor WindowEd, reviewed in RISC User Volume 5 Issue 5.
Note: this documentation is intended only to be a very rough guide to using WindowEd. Full documentation including an extensive tutorial is included in the full version. The version on this disc is complete except that it cannot save template files. The full version costs £35 and is available from Armen Software, Laxton House, Milton Road, Oundle, Peterborough PE8 4AQ.
The purpose of WindowEd is to create and manage files of window definitions (template files).
Template files in WindowEd behave very similarly to sprite files in Paint - each file is represented by a window, which contains icons representing the various windows in the template file. Double-clicking on an icon opens the window.
Both the template file windows and the template windows you can edit have menus attached, which present various options. A few points about these:
* Editing of windows and icons is carried out through dialogue boxes as opposed to through a menu tree, as in FormEd. Options to open the dialogue boxes are in the template window menu.
* Options to 'grab' windows and icons are given. If you choose one of these options, the mouse pointer changes shape and you should choose the window or icon to grab by clicking (for a window) or dragging it to where you want it in your window (for an icon).
The icon bar menu has an option to open a 'toolbox'. This is a small window containing icons representing window gadgets. These may be used in place of normal window gadgets in the case of 'gadget-deficient' windows - e.g. to close a window with no close box, open the toolbox, click the 'X' icon in it and then click the window to close. Moving windows around, resizing them etc. can all be handled via the toolbox.
