  3. printer icon on the icon bar.

  6. Try doing some of the following things:

  9. STEREO
  10. Each stave can have an independent stereo position (set on the Pan submenu
  11. of the Play menu). Try playing back the sample scores using stereo
  12. headphones.
  13.  
  14.  
  15. TEMPO
  16. When playing back, Sibelius 6 reads all sorts of markings from the score,
  17. such as dynamics, articulation marks and metronome marks.

  19. Load the sample music file Solfeggiet, click Select on the metronome mark at
  20. the start, and change the number to 300. Then click on the play button.

  23. CHANGING SPACING
  24. Select a note or rest and drag it left or right instead of up and down. This
  25. is how you can adjust the spacing if you think you can do it better than
  26. Sibelius 6. See how all sorts of markings shift and stretch to keep the
  27. music correctly notated. If you drag far enough, you can push bars of music
  28. off the page to produce a 'domino effect' right the way through the score.

  30. Alternatively, select a stave and drag it up and down to adjust the vertical
  31. spacing. Again, you can affect the whole score this way.

  34. THICK CHORDS
  35. Create a chord with lots of notes and accidentals, then drag a single
  36. notehead through the chord - and watch all the complex rules being applied
  37. in real time.

  40. CROSSING PARTS
  41. Create some music with two parts on one stave; then try dragging the pitch
  42. of a note so that the parts cross. Try doing the same with two 2-note
  43. chords, each containing an interval of a fifth or so, and drag one of
  44. the chords up or down as a whole (by double-clicking first).

  47. REFORMATTING
  48. Load a score and choose File->Score format... Change the page shape and
  49. margins and/or the stave size, then click on Set. The whole score will be
  50. instantly reformatted to suit.
  51.  
  52. You can use this to make different versions of the same score, or by making
  53. adjustments to the size of the staves you can force a score to fit into a
  54. desired number of pages. This is very useful if your piano piece takes up
  55. two-and-a-half pages instead of two.

  58. SCREEN MODES
  59. By choosing a high-resolution screen mode - particularly on a RISC PC - you
  60. can fit an enormous amount of music on the screen.

  63. EXTRACTING PARTS
  64. Sibelius 6 will automatically extract, transpose and re-space instrumental
  65. parts from a full score. This saves an enormous amount of time.

  67. Try loading Jerusalem, and select one of the staves. Then choose Extract
  68. part from the Edit menu.
  69.  
  70. The part will be extracted and respaced, ready to print straight away.
  71. Sibelius 6 even automatically transposes the part if necessary for
  72. transposing instruments such as Clarinet.
